Social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and every else are widely known as time wasters. But do they really need to be?
Why they are good
While many social medias have the reputation of time wasters, they can be used professionally as a tool to help you network with other people, find a job, find an employee or learn something new.
There are social platforms which are developed merely for professional use – like LinkedIn. It’s designed to help you build portfolio and connect with other professionals who may or may not be in your field of work. If you go job-hunting, it’s pretty much expected from you to have LinkedIn account.
But LinkedIn isn’t the only solution. You can choose any platform for purpose of expanding your network of people.
- You want foreigner to help you learn new language? Ask them!
- You want someone to help you with your project? Ask them!
- You are making similar project like someone else and want to partner up? Just ask them!
Asking is how we learn. So don’t be afraid to reach out to others! They are people like you and me, and most likely they’ll want to help.
Great example of this is Quora, platform made for the purpose of answering questions! You should definitely check it out if you haven’t already, you can learn a lot!
Groups
Facebook groups(or any other groups for that matter) are another great way of connection! Just join a public or closed group that is about things you’re interested in – gaming, programming, music, learning a language…
You’ll see how others think and what they do, and you’ll learn a lot of new things!
Have a question for some influencer? Twitter is the way to go, but you can try with Instagram DM or comments.
The point is to break your fear of asking, and focus on learning new things. Nobody is going to judge you if you don’t know something. So just search and ask!
You’ll meet a lot of people on the way, and expand your network which will surely help you in whatever it is you do!
