Community Series #21: Holiday Traveling Tales

Call us crazy, but Abi and I decided to start a 9 hour drive at 8 in the evening. When the holidays are near, the anticipation of being with family encourages such actions.

I drove till about 5 am and Abi took over from there - however, the circumstances before that switch made for hilarious traveling memories.

While starting on our last highway, we encountered two bad accidents. The wait time was more than 30 minutes, and since we were becoming tired we decided to drive the back roads - oh my, were they back roads!

As we drove through the woods, the roads became progressively thinner, to the point that they were essentially a one way. The funny part was, they still had double yellow lines. There was only room for a four-wheeler on either side of the road - which is probably the main mode of transportation in the backwoods.

It was a welcome respite for both of us, as we couldn’t stop laughing even as we were incredibly tired.

We continued on and passed multiple cow crossing signs and stopped to avoid several packs of deer. There was no lack of excitement in the darkness of the woods.

Finally, we made it to a stopping point so Abi could finish the drive, and I could sleep for 3 hours.

When I woke up, there was a smell of Pepe le Pew around our vehicle - a dead skunk had found our tire.

As holiday traveling goes, this was the more entertaining of trips that I can remember. The best part is, we have a 24 hour trip ahead of us to Colorado in 2 weeks. Here we go.

What are some of your adventurous and memorable holiday travel stories?

That sounds adventurous. You guys must have had a lot of fun.

Oh, we are still laughing at the whole adventure.

That means you are gonna remember this for your whole lifetime.

Pepe le Pew!!! lol I haven't heard that in ages.

You know those back roads is where all the Criminal Mind episodes are filmed....just sayin' :)

I would love to see photos of your deer packs (in headlights, I'm sure).

Have a great time wherever you are - Merry Christmas if I don't see you online again.

Lol. He lingers on...

Well, I enjoy a good crime drama - Abi may have other ideas. :)

I’ll be around - it could be sporadic replies.

Outstanding life perspective!

I only commute by highways - drives Deb crazy but I'd rather not take a chance of encountering wildlife of either animal or human variety :)

After this trip, I understand your reasoning. :)

Great story so far, Lydon... Holding my breath (and my nose) waiting for the next installment... ;)

😄😇😄

@creatr

Lol. Wise

Ohh wow that sounded like an experience haha I always say that you really get to know someone during long car rides so hopefully ABI and you weren't at each other's throats all day haha

I would say my most memorable holiday travel story was when my family and I went down to Miami and spect Christmas at this bar that played a mix of Spanish and Christmas music.

We are normally a very traditional family, so it was nice seeing a different side of my family!

Stay safe on your travels!

Spanish and Christmas music, that would open people’s personalities up more than usual!

Thank you for well wishes!

Thats a smell you dont forget any time soon!

You got that right!

that's the adventurous ride :D

Yes, it was!

Awww bud, you alwys have something new...good one indeed and keep it up and drive safe!!!

Haha, thank you my man! Driving safe so we can see everyone.

That cartoon cracked me up. Getting off the main routes always leads to adventures. The Deer herd sounds lovely, not so keen on the skunk though lol

Pepe seemed like the appropriate cartoon for the moment, lol. We are with you, we’d rather avoid him the next time.

I still need to take action to travel more, but first need the funds ahha :)

Haha, I understand. :)

Excellent
