The Daily Dood - RIP Dell Inspiron 1750

in computers •  6 years ago

So sorry guys! The Dood is in mourning. My beloved Dell Inspiron 1750 has finally passed. It suffered a hard drive failure today, and The Dood has decided to not resuscitate it. So long old friend.

The drive failed this morning while I was posting the days headlines on Twitter. I had some things to do throughout the afternoon, and when I returned home I tried to patch up my old machine. I had an old hard drive from a HP with a bad processor and tried to see if it would work. I got it running but the drive was slow, and if I recall I'm pretty sure it had some bad sectors too.

I'm not sure exactly how old it was but estimate that it lasted around 6 - 8 years. I upgraded its memory for better performance, ran Linux in it for the last 3 or 4 years and for the most part it was a really great computer. So many trades, websites designed, and code written.

Anyway, The Daily Dood will return on Monday! What little I had compiled this morning was on the old hard drive, and I just didn't have time to put one together tonight. Thanks for understanding.

So this happened the other day. I'm not sure if one affected the other. The crack was caused by a defective hinge in the case. I started it using a pin. I thought it was dead as of yesterday, but then when I realized I could still boot it, I kept on using it. This morning I got the hard drive failure. I guess it's time was up.

Spent the evening trying to repair it with spare parts from old computers. Unfortunately I came to the conclusion that it's time to retire it :( I have to admit, I'm a little bummed. Me and that PC have been through a lot together.

Decorated with stickers from some of my online friends. I'm really going to miss this old laptop.

For now I've got this Chromebook as a backup. Sooner or later I'll have to start shopping for a real laptop. This really couldn't of happened at a worse time. I bought the Chromebook as a backpack computer for when I travel. For the most part I can get it to do just about everything I need it too. Thankful & grateful I have a backup!
