Cass attempts to play... Blue Max on the Commodore 64

in computing •  7 years ago

Here's a video in which I have a few goes at the superb Blue Max (by Synapse Software) on the C64.

A classic early shoot-em-up, full of lovely touches (such as being able to fly UNDER the bridges of you get low enough) this has a wonderful balance to the gameplay.

The aim is to survive long enough between landings to hit the primary targets. These are the enemy planes, boats and cars that flash blue and the bridges and buildings that have a flashing blue target on. If you manage to hit enough of the primary targets on your runs, you get to attack the enemy capital and a shot at destroying their headquarters, thus completing the game. The game keeps running between landing strips forever until you are destroyed or complete the mission.

Considering this was released back in 1983, it's truly an astonishingly good game for its time.

As always in this video series, I didn't activate any cheat modes - I'm going to try to do these playthroughs without any artificial help...

Please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments for other games for me to play on the C64 (or indeed the Vic-20 or C16/Plus4)

Enjoy the video!

If you enjoyed this video, please let me know below and please check out my other vids on my blog (including complete playthroughs of the all time classic Bruce Lee by Datasoft, Impossible Mission by Epyx and the mighty Ghostbusters by Activision).

Cheers,

Cass
