Towards the end of our trip in Vietnam, we took a bus from the northern town of Pasha to the Sino-Vietnamese border town of Lao Cai, and from there, at the land border crossing, we entered the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture County in Yunnan Province. A short stay in the Yunnan border town of Hekou gave us the privilege to enjoy the beautiful scenery and charming views of the Honghe River and the wonderful impressions we left behind.
The Red River, a cross-border water system between Yunnan Province, China - Vietnam, is the only major international river originating in Yunnan (the border is at Hekou Town - Lao Cai, Vietnam), and is also the largest river in northern Vietnam; due to the red sand shale strata in the basin, the water is red, so it is called "Red River". Hekou Port, the largest port in the Yunnan section of the Sino-Vietnamese border, is also the terminus of the Kunhe section of the Yunnan-Vietnamese railroad and is a national class port. It is located at the southern end of Hekou County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, across the river from Lao Market of Vietnam, with a national border of 193 kilometers.
