Hello my readers, I am here again to share this thought of mine with you. Before you continue I will advise for your discretion as my takes may provoke you especially if you are the religious type.
My write-up will be enjoyed by anyone who has an open mind.
In Nigeria, we were not originally Christians but traditional and idol worshippers. I will talk about that in a separate post.
But the European colonisers invaded our land and brought with them their foreign gods which we were forced to worship (I guess I am derailing again).
They taught us that we have a God in heaven who sent His son to die for us so that we may be saved.
They taught us how to pray to our Father who arts in heaven.
Now this evening I am back from school and I am all drained and tired. I lay on my bed to rest but that will not be possible because my neighbour who is a tongue-firing prayer warrior is at it again.
She is a praying and stamping her feet and raising her voice high that if you did not know her, you would run to check if she had gone mad.
My dear neighbour is not the only one showcasing this war fashion praying but many Christians in my country pray this way.
This has got me thinking many times and since steemit is a place where we have people from all over the world, I would like to know how you pray in your country if you are a Christian.
Do you shake, jump and shout till you are deep in sweats?
Do you speak in tongues you do not understand?
Why I am asking all these questions is because I have seen movies by the Europeans who introduced this religion to us. I see how they pray and you would notice with me that the only movies we see very strong and loud pray is during exorcism of some demons.
Are Nigerian Christians perpetually afflicted by demons to pray this way?
Let's now think about it this way, it is something I always wish to ask them but the last thing I want is to be labelled an antichrist.
God is said to all knowing, all seeing and all hearing.
It is said that He knows the thoughts and intents of the heart.
If the above is true then it means you do not need to shout at the top of your voice for him to hear you. You don't need to also open your mouth to pray but just pray in your heart and he will certainly hear you.
I sometimes attend church service and once prayer starts these folks will go into such frenzy and I on my own would pity God because if I were in his shoes I'd have some hearing loss.
And the majority of the people who pray this way are the poor and struggling members of the society. Maybe their frustration makes them pray that way(desperate times calls for desperate measures innit).
I ask again, if I use two minutes to pray silently about my problems and my friends uses an hour plus to shout, jump, cast and bind; would God answer him and ignore me?
Is this act a show to lure God into answering them urgently?
I will never know, I hope to get your thoughts on this matter of prayer.
