Spiritual connection with God: As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. Psalm 42:1

Our spiritual connection begins with the fear of God. In essence, this gift is the thirst for beatitude, the thirst for the spiritual goods, and especially the vision of God. The gift of fear of God is the spiritual seed that God places in the heart of man so that he may follow his ways, as was the case with David: "And from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David" 1 Samuel 16:13.
Whoever fears God abominates sin, and avoids error, and as Psalm 1 says:
"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked" Psalm 1:1.
Whoever sincerely seeks the path to God and his wisdom cannot follow the path of sinners, nor frequent their company, because in sinners there is concupiscence and hardness of heart.
In this way, the Psalm 42 teaches us with a beautiful metaphor how acts the fear of God and the contemplative life (worship of wisdom) in the heart of man:
"As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?" Psalm 42:1-2.
If a comparison can be made, in a righteous person the gift of fear of God acts in a similar way to greed in wicked people, the fear of God is the impulse of the heart towards the good and the perception with the mind of God.
The Psalm 42 continues and tells us about meeting the Lord, but God is pure spirit, in spirituality we meet God only through the worship of wisdom, that is, when the fear of God is perfected in man through Gnosis, as happened to Solomon when he asked God for a heart that knows how to listen (1 Kings 3:5-15).
The worship of wisdom is essentially the most perfect spiritual activity, and from it comes the most perfect happiness, happiness as a state of mind. Despite living in a world delivered to sin, and the difficulties that this brings with it; the psalm requests us to seek God in all its forms, and especially through an adult heart towards God.
