Granted, this is one that most of you may have heard of but I hadn't, so I mainly share this for myself because I am so utterly amazed with these guys, and have been out of Rock for a few years because it seemed it had run out of steam and that there was nothing noteworthy going on in the scene that was pushing the envelope on all fronts...
Fortunately two good friends of mine have pointed out I should check out "Nothing More" and boy am I absolutely floored after seeing this performance.
To all those who may NOT yet have heard about this band (like me until a weeek ago!): You are in for a real treat.
Not only do these guys outright shine with their message and their congruency when presenting their tracks, the level of skill involved dwarves most bands I have ever seen perform live, and believe me I have seen a few real good live shows in my life.
When I stumbled upon this semi-acoustic version of one of their rather famous tracks, I was flabergasted. It is the band I always wanted to form myself back then with my friends, the ideal of what to aim for in skill, drive and rawness while delivering a message and live show that inspires, empowers and leaves the listener with a sense of ability and capability, a pathway to reconsider our daily conduct with the people we love but may have forgotten.
They have started to play quotes by Alan Watts during their live shows, granting countless (young) people the opportunity to hear about an altogether different and revitalizing view of what the world may be and what life may mean in the face of the materialist indoctrination our Western cultures usually thrive on against their own interests.
Even if you are familiar with the original single, this live version will outright stun you if you have an appreciation for premium skill live performances, there really is no other way to describe it.
Nothing More's music fuses elements of recent rock decades, screaming and rhythm changes with electronic elements, oversaturated guitars and bass and a deeply satisfying and catchy hook by the vocalist.
If you have a band and want to get some loving ass-kicking motivation to go tackle your dreams and continue despite the bleak state of the industry or what the naysayers may say, these guys might just do the trick.
I have written way too much here already, and could never write anything that does these guys' performance justice. So without further ado, here is the live performance that has thoroughly revitalized my love for Rock and has given me great hope that some bands still aim to be unique, mightily skilled and amazingly inspiring to their listeners... some actual rolemodels for young people looking for orientation in life and the world in an age of degradation and lost human values.
They are touring heavily so there is a high chance you can catch them in a place near you if you want to see them live in the future, they are currently embarking on another North America tour: http://nothingmore.net/tour/
You can buy their music through any record vendor or large music outlet online as they do qualify as mainstream, which is odd enough as I rarely share artists with this much popular success in this series. But from the energetics I can see and hear, as well as from the lyrics and congruency this really was too powerful to be held down by "the gang" (of degredation record-labels and the abyss that popular music has largely become in my estimation), at least that's my suspicion as my heart is celebrating what this band has delivered here despite the relatively high number of views.
"When did we become these sinking stones?
When did we build this broken home?
Holding each other like ransom notes
Dropping our hearts to grip our brother's throat
You can't see because you don't know
You're caught below, beneath your own shadow
Stuck inside, half alive
Do you ever stop to ask yourself why?
Close your mind, identify
Do you feel, do you feel?
Do you call this a life?
All you waited for
Drowning just to keep score
We always start with good intentions
But lose ourselves along the way
This is the time that we let it go
These are the words that will take us home
Singing the song that's inside us all
If we don't open our eyes we're walking blind
Anchored in anger, we exile ourselves
Bitter blood builds our prison cell
Darker water now fills our lungs
The depths of our heart have blacked the sun
You can't see because you don't know
You're caught below, beneath your own shadow
Stuck inside, half alive
Do you ever stop to ask yourself why?
Close your mind, identify
Do you feel, do you feel?
Do you call this a life?
All you waited for
Drowning just to keep score
We always start with good intentions
But lose ourselves along the way
This is the time that we let it go
These are the words that will take us home
Singing the song that's inside us all
If we don't open our eyes we're walking blind
Naked we come, naked we leave
Fools we are, to hold tightly
We are the jail, we are the key
We are free, we are free
This is the time that we let it go
These are the words that will take us home
Singing the song that's inside us all
If we just open our eyes
This is the time that we let it go
This is the pain we are forced to know
Singing the song that's inside
Inside us all, inside us all
Walking Blind"
Even if only one of you has never heard of this band, the post will have been totally worth it.
Enjoy!!!
