Conscious Music you have (probably never) heard of | #34 | System of a Down - Science

One of the lesser known tracks by a hugely popular band, System of a Down's Science is both harsh in its delivery and soothing to the intuition of those who have become skeptical of the materialist worldview for its reduction of everything-that-is to matter and causal relationships of an unconcious nature.

While I always loved SOAD's music and it has been essential for me on my musical path I simply did not understand the message of this track for the longest time as my frame of reference would not allow for it. I assumed the guys must be talking about some quasi-religious worldview or new-agy whoowhoo ideas without any basis presumably spawned from their religious beliefs and roots, and that it didn't really matter considering I loved the music so much for its uniqueness and flair back when it came out.

These days however I am amazed when I revisit their music after a few years of taking a break and re-discovering that this narrational idea of science gone wrong is exactly what I came to find out on my own in recent years. Something I want to write a lot more about in the future on here. Not because I know what the truth is but because claims that question rigidly established scientific notions today are shunned and treated as heresy, something that is definitely NOT the scientific way.

The scientific method remains one of the best linear tools for inching closer to "the truth" however I have come to see the baggage of assumptions contemporary mainstream science is tied to to be hugely unscientific and based on unexamind notions of a religious nature - of all things. Worldview has long trumped evidence and reason. Group-think has long trumped the questioning of any and every scientific hypothesis. And maybe it's precisely because some people have worked diligently to simply equate spirit with old anthropomorphized notions of god - and thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

And while the message of the track comes as blunt and brutal as the sound of the guitars, I feel the critique of a scientific approach that denies the interconnectedness and spirit in all that is is something worth sharing any day, even when SOAD's recent albums have not captivated me anywhere near as much as their self-titled album and Toxicity have done in the past.

Regardless of how you see the universe, science and reality (that is and will always be fully up to you) I find after much initial doubt that these guys were spot on with their assessment all along, albeit a little vague as to what exactly they are talking about. A statement about the world that inspires questions and a re-examination of our fundamental assumptions about life, the universe and reality without quite giving us the new belief-trap to fall into, I dig it ;)

So without further ado, here is a high quality version of their track. Prepare to be blasted away <3

Lyrics:

"Making two possibilities a reality
Predicting the future of things we all know
Fighting off the diseased programming
Of centuries, centuries, centuries, centuries

Science fails to recognize the single most
Potent element of human existence
Letting the reins go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith

Science has failed our world
Science has failed our Mother Earth

Science fails to recognize the single most
Potent element of human existence
Letting the reins go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith

Science has failed our world
Science has failed our Mother Earth

Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things

Letting the reins go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith
Letting the reins go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith

Science has failed our world
Science has failed our Mother Earth

Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things

Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things
Spirit moves through all things

Science has failed our Mother Earth"

You can get their music in any large online store or music outlet, the track has been released on their "Toxicity" album.

Stop considering your neighbors for 3 minutes and... enjoy ;)
