Consciousness, what is it?

What is consciousness? Is it what makes you, you? Is it your soul, is it out of our dimension? Consciousness is a weird thing, and it's hard to understand, as it's hard to meassure. People have long tried to understand what consciousness is. "To be, or not to be", wondered William Shakespeare. Right now we are, and most of us don't know what not being feels like.
People have pushed the boundaries of their body by means of psychedelic substance use, in an attempt to feel what it's like to be, and what it's like to not to be. A lot of great minds tried putting word to their discoveries, thoughts and experiences. People have wondered what consciousness is, where, when and how, and people have wondered why. These thoughts are troubling, and many opinions have been made.
Researchers had a hypothesis, that consciousness was neurons communicating not in the easiest and shortest routes, but in the longest and most complex routes. This suggests that consciousness is the product of mass communicating neurons, in a sense, individual neurons exploring their network, their surroundings, in an attempt to become conscious about its place. When test subjects were introduced to a drug that would render them unconscious, this network ceased to be, maybe confirming this theory. Then a special kind of patient surfaced, a patient who's brain had been damaged as he was young, rendering some 70+% of his brain inactive, which baffled researchers, as in theory, he shouldn't even be conscious.
Defining consciousness is a task that's possible, but figuring out exactly what consciousness is, what it's made of and why, is short of impossible.
Since I was young, I've had an open mind to this subject, and I've wondered a lot. I've come to an open conclusion, which I want to share with you. It is as goes:

We are humans. Humans are an collection of complex bubbles of matter, cells, which works together to keep us animated. We are the result of billions of years of developement, evolution. Life started as a single cell, an enviroment in which matter would collect more matter to duplicate itself, become more effecient to collect matter, and develope as time passed.
An extremely complex chemical reaction transforming 'regular' matter into 'animated' matter. We are humans, our bodies are controlled by a bio-chem-electrical computer, which converts external forces into information, making up our awareness of our enviroment.
We observe the world through the means of external force detection which our body allows us, and we think. We don't just exist, we're not just aware, but we're also conscious. At some point of our evolution, we started having excess brain power to think, to ponder. We started thinking: "Here I am, this is my reflection, I'm inside this, this is me". What made us do this, what happened? Did we just suddenly decide to be conscious, was it just random, or is there more behind it?
I believe that we are, in a sense, just as conscious as a rock. I believe that consciousness is like existence, it surrounds everything we know of, but our human complexity, our bio-chem-electrical computer, our brains, allows for the consciousness to experience existence through its body host. The body moves the brain around, and lets the brain experience the external forces, ie light, sound, the enviroment affecting the body, and consciousness just experiences that. We are the consciousness, we are one consciousness experiencing itself through our individual bodies, our individual hosts. Consciousness is everywhere, our body is its host.

I completely agree
We are all like animated dolls. A bunch of reference points to observe our self. The host are molded by consciousness trough time to decrease resistance, so it can pop up in and out of the bodies at a faster refresh rate. The body is however also an entity on itself and changes in the intervals that consciousness is absent. It is the interplay between these two aspects of the one infinite being that we all are that creates this complex fractal existence.
Our ride is infinite and will never end while at the same time this universe already collapsed instantly and nothing has ever existed.
