يأمل الاتحاد الإنكليزي لكرة القدم، في الاحتفاظ بغاريث ساوثغيت كمدرب للمنتخب الوطني، إلى ما بعد كأس أوروبا 2020، مدركا في الوقت نفسه أنه قد لا يتمكن من مقاومة عامل الإغراء المالي في حال أتيحت له فرصة تدريب أحد الأندية المحلية.
وقاد ساوثغيت (47 عاما) منتخب "الأسود الثلاثة" الى الدور نصف النهائي لمونديال 2018، وذلك للمرة الأولى في البطولة العالمية منذ العام 1990، علما ان المنتخب الانكليزي لم ينجح قبل المونديال الروسي في تحقيق سوى فوز واحد في الأدوار الاقصائية للبطولات الكبرى منذ 16 عاما.
وقال الرئيس التنفيذي للاتحاد مارتن غلين أمام الصحافيين في ملعب ويمبلي "لقد كان غاريث رائعا، ونريد منه أن يبقى لما بعد 2020".
The FA intends to keep Southgate as coach
The England Football Association hopes to keep Gareth Southgate as a national coach until after the 2020 European Cup, knowing that he may not be able to resist the temptation of financial if he has the opportunity to train a local club.
Southgate, 47, led the "Three Lions" to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup for the first time in the world championship since 1990. The English team did not succeed before the Russian World Cup to achieve only one win in the playoffs of major tournaments 16 years ago .
"Gareth was fantastic, and we want him to stay beyond 2020," the club's chief executive Martin Glenn told reporters at Wembley.
