If you’ve been looking at ways to improve your SEO, or you’ve been working on your content marketing, or both – then you’ve probably heard of evergreen content.
You may have even been told that it’s very important if you want to rank, but you’re still unsure of what evergreen content is. So…
What is evergreen content?
This blog post will give you a beginners guide on evergreen marketing and explain why it’s so important for your SEO.
The answer to your burning question, “What is evergreen content” the answer, “Evergreen content is SEO content that is continually relevant”.
To give you an example, news articles or statistics are not evergreen. Why? Because statistics change over time, hot off the press today, is yesterdays news tomorrow. If you want your content to serve it’s SEO purpose, you need to create content that is not going to go out of fashion, or become irrelevant.
How do you get round this?
Put simply, keep it relevant. You may be thinking “how am I supposed to stay topical, yet relevant in 6 months from now”. This all depends on your industry and what you are choosing to write about. Here are a few tips to avoid being irrelevant in 6-12 months time.
Create video content
Create lists
How to guides on products, services
Reviews on your products
If you were to write a how to guide or even “6 ways to open a bottle” type of article, it will never go out of fashion. Can you see a day in our lifetime where we will no longer need to open a bottle? – Well unless we enter that elite world where butlers open our bottles…
The above methods wont guarantee your content is evergreen, but using these methods gives you a much higher chance of creating content that will not go out of fashion next week. User guides are always going to be needed.
Evergreen article ideas
Lets take things one step further and give you a few examples of articles you can write, that are unlikely to go out of fashion.

People are always going to be passionate about food, which will lead to over indulging. They will then seek ways to lose weight, join a gym to improve their fitness and weight loss goals. Whilst pumping iron in their local gym, they might catch the eye of someone they’ve been admiring from a distance. It’s time to brush up on those chat up lines and seek some dating advice. This person is now in a relationship, researching the best places to visit around the world. As we all know, foreign travel can be an expensive hobby, it looks like it’s time to look up money saving tips.
You can see how easy it is to create a situation or a persona that would be “Googling” the article titles we’ve given you above. This is how they will find your content and visit your website. In turn, this will result in more traffic to your website and increase in your search engine ranking.
