ContentBacon shares the secret to being successful in content marketing
You’ve heard a lot about content marketing. It seems like every marketer and business is talking about how central it is to their growth strategy. And it’s not going anywhere. It’s not some trend that will pass. It’s the new way businesses do business. You know you need to do it too, but you just can’t seem to get started.
And we get that. We know it’s not easy. Since we launched ContentBacon in 2014, we’ve worked with hundreds of companies and written, produced, delivered thousands of pieces of content. And we’ve learned a thing or two about what it takes to be successful. We are going to share our secret sauce with you right now. Are you pumped?
The # 1 Secret to Successful Content Marketing
Just do it! It’s that simple. Just get started. Do anything, even if it’s not great at first.
We have a saying in our company: Make it bad, make it better. It’s helped us start projects that seem impossible. You start. You keep taking actions, making progress (no matter how slow it feels at times!) and before you know, you’ve got something great. We’ve learned that action creates results. And the more actions you take, the more results you get. It works for anything and everything. We guarantee it.
Sounds simple enough right? Here are some more specific actions you can take to get your content marketing strategy started:
Ask your web developer, webmaster, IT company (whoever manages your website) to add a blog to your website.
Ask your key salespeople what the most frequently asked questions are that a prospective customer poses leading up to a sale.
Create content that answers each question. This can be a written article or a video. In fact, you can create a video or even a voice recording, transcribe it using Speechpad or Rev, and you’ve got a draft that you can then edit. Voila! You’ve got your first piece of content.
Post it to your blog with a great title, sub-title and photo. If you are posting videos, build a YouTube or Vimeo Channel, add the channel to your website and embed the videos. Make sure they are also properly optimized. If you do create videos, we encourage you to have them transcribed into a written version as well.
Promote it on your social media pages. Publish it as a post on LinkedIn.
Create a news blast using MailChimp, ConstantContact or any other mail provider you choose and share it with your database. It’s a great way to keep yourself top of mind with current and past customers.
Congratulate yourself on what you’ve accomplished. Then rinse and repeat
These are seven actions you can take to get out of the stands and on the court. And like any game, when you first start playing, you won’t be that good. It will take practice, consistency, some training and coaching, and (most importantly) taking action—even when you don’t feel like it. And before you know it, you will start putting some points on the board and win at the content marketing game.
Like Nike says—just do it!
