Who do you vote? #Let’s ask some question! - Steem Bounty of 5 STEEM-

in contest •  6 years ago

I'm revealing myself today, or better said, I would like to talk about what and whom I vote regularly.

First of all there are already some (still few) Steemians I already know personally, so I got to know them face to face. This mostly positive personal experience has of course determined my voting behaviour.

Then there are also people, with whom I somehow imagine to have something in common.

That could include a lot, for example:

  • the basic attitude towards life
-the skin colour plays no role here

  • plays of living or origin
-of course I'm checking, reading and using the hashtag #deutsch quite frequently and I'm really interested about everything that is going on in Japan

And then there are also Steemians who have supported and accompanied me so far. Same suffering connects.

I also read and vote for users who I simply find interesting, even if they don't return my votes. Good content needs to be rewarded, unfortunately that is not what is happening here these days.

Last but not least I vote for myself, permanently. To have at least some little ROI. No shame on my side.

And what do I read?

Due to a lack of time, family life takes it's toll so I can't read all the content I'm interested in. Therefor I have to admit that I vote articles without reading, but every curation is done manually. No auto-voting or curation trail used at all, so every vote follows some particular decision. And I stopped checking my voting power, if something deserves a vote it will be done at any time.

But I'm trying to read articles and check out users who I usually not agree with. The reason is simple, I just don't want to live in an echo chamber or bubble, where everyone is having the same opinion as I have. To broaden my mind and to understand what is going on I need and I want to hear other people's thoughts. At least to a certain content.
And probably they won't get any vote of mine at all, and I also avoid to comment there these days. Discussions on social media became kinda pointless. The biggest reason people start to argue is to be right.

I usually check out my news feed, since these are the people I started following in the first place. Reading though here takes my time so often I can't go any further. But I appreciate some interesting resteem to take me to some new places.

I actually intended to make this a German post but @jmhb85 reminded me of Steem-Bounty and his last article (where he set a bounty of 100 STEEM) changed my mind, so I'm writing in English and setting up a bounty of 5 STEEM myself.

-#Let’s ask some question!

The question of the day is as simple as it is straightforward?

Who do you vote?

What kind of comment and what users do you favour?

Do you use auto-voting or curation trails or do you do it the old-fashioned manual way?

How much do you drain your voting power?

Leave me some comments, I think this discussion could also lead to a little more mutual understanding. Everyone is free to use his or her voting power (or mana) in any way he/she likes. Selfvoting included, even though we must understand the consequences if we prefer to stick to a close circle rather then supporting the community.

Looking forward to hearing from you, my dear Steemians.

Sort Order:

I only follow around 100 accounts and these authors are usually the ones that I upvote for, except for whales. I have autovote on for some friends, but for the rest I will do manual voting between 30-40% of vp, not more not less. We are particularly interested in Japanese authors and reading their posts on everything Japan. Many of them are still minnows and so it is a good idea to dedicate a significant amount of my vp to support them.

my follower list isn't that big either, I try to keep it clear.
Most people I give a full 100 percent so I am draining out a little faster, but since I don't have to much time to spend here anymore that's not a problem

Dear @maxinpower, thank you to join this wonderful family, we need people like you. Regarding your question, i use most @minnowbooster service for automatic operations, but after HF20 i decided to keep in contact only with @steem-bounty users to keep my low RC because as it is now Steemit do not deserve i spend a cent of my RC for such Elite platform, so as you are member of this family, here i am to interact with human people who have right value of the social platform

Currently, I still curate everything manually and use no autovoter or bot because I like to have the control over my votes and decide on a post by post basis :) But of course I also upvote friends and Steemians who I want to support. But I do it manually at the moment and don't upvote everything a user publish.

Kinda similar here, but somehow I always return to certain people who often get my votes

I just joined the contest as well.

To answer briefly, first I use steemvoter for a couple of friends I already could gain here.
Second, I find good articles by chance via surfing. Mostly, I give 100% votes as my VP is still small. But my votes come directly from my heart, I swear :-)

Hugs and love,

Diana

thanks for your answer. and votes straight from your heart seem to be the best ones! :)

I do not make use of curation trails or auto-voting, I still do it the hard way but I have some users who get my vote rather than others. :)
When @followmikecee announced he needed help getting the money for a new roof together I voted his posts with 100% for about one and half a week.
Then came HF20 and I have not strained my RC since, due to obvious reasons.

Thanks a lot for your help, i appreciate it very much!

War doch kein Problem.
Ist das Dach denn nun finanziert?

I wanted to wait too, to regain my voting mana but at some point I just started voting as usual. I am at about 70 percent now, so no need to hold back anymore

I have to confess to using an autovoter for authors I like to support, because life can get busy and then I find I've missed voting on a really good post from a great author. If I have them on autovote, then I know they'll get my vote, even if I'm late reading it. I vote manually too for things I find interesting.

I vote for people I've met personally, because they are a kind and generous group of people. I also vote for those I find engaging. I try to upvote those who interact with me, but I don't always have the VP to get them above the dust threshold. So I'd I'm low on VP (or should that be VM now?) I might add a smaller vote to a recent post.

I do self vote, but only if I have enough VM for it and I'll do it later so it adds to the curation pool for earlier voters (not that my vote is worth much anyway). I try to keep VM above 90% because it loses value when it drops below that.

My priority is posts that have little rewards and from users with low reputation, but never below. If the post is lgbt-friendly or scientific it gets more options to get upvoted. I also upvote most of the posts that provide @steem-bounty rewards.

Yes, I agree with you mostly. Sometimes I follow people just because I know they will always share photography of plants, trees, nature, delicious food, animals, drawing, or art.

Other people I follow because they write about some controversial topics, and that gives me an opportunity to chime in and agree or disagree. Practicing comments that are constructive in nature, and not hostile or insulting is always a good practice on steemit.

There are a few people I follow just because I consider them a charity case, I have to admit. However, they share their honest stories and make quality posts, so any time I have some extra upvotes to give, I am happy to lend them a free upvote.

Usually I wait for my Voting Power (mana) to reach 100% before I go to bed, and then I upvote all my favorite posts until it reaches 90% or so, because it is recharged by the time I wake up. As long as I am having a day off, I generally allow it to recharge back to 100% before I cast another upvote, and then wait for it to recharge again. I always use 100% on the voting slider, because it makes people feel great to earn my respect and reward as a manual curator. I never trade votes or give up my votes to any service. I only vote for posts that I think deserve it.

Steem Basic Income and Dustsweeper are both great services I think everyone should own a little bit of. It feels great to get that extra pat on the back every time you make a post or comment.

Comments don't often receive an upvote from me, but if they go out of their way to do some research to help me out with a problem, and it is great advice, then I'll give them a 100% upvote.

Another thing I highly recommend to help people out that do a lot of manual curating, is to consider renting out some delegation from Blocktrades. Right now 90 day delegations are 50% off, and that is a super deal they do not offer very often in the year. Last winter I was able to have around 8000 SP for 90 days because delegation was so cheap. You can imagine how many followers that gave me when each of my upvotes were worth about $7 a piece. Usually I save my SBD's for leasing delegation, and all my Steem is used for powering up my Steem Power.

Thank you for your comment.

One thing about Blocktrades.
Their RC is negative so they can't process any delegations or purchases these day. Every delegation seems to be delayed now, so me might be better be careful and double check whether it's working or not.

But yeah, I was thinking about renting some SP too.

I vote a lot. However, my voting falls into three categories

  1. I'm a contest freak. So I upvote posts of contests I participate in.

  2. I automatically upvote random posts at 8% voting weight usually in the first 10 -15 minutes. That way I get at least 0.001 curation reward. Multiply that by 50 and I get something fair for my 390 SP every day

  3. I upvote my friend and folks I follow. Because I'm always applying for contests, I rarely have time to go through my feed. That's why I follow only a select few. Once every two days (or thereabouts) I go through my feed, enjoy the posts there and contribute my upvote.

My VP drains a lot. But I don't mind. If it drains too much, I turn off the automatic voting for a while.

Don't forget to vote after 15 minutes now, if not you won't get any curation reward anymore. One of the changes of HF 20.

thanks for your contribution, always interesting to read how others do it

How do know all the changes due to HF 20.
Any site or wallpaper?

I was just reading some blogs and comments of user Steemians to keep me informed. Just use the hashtag #HF20 and check out some of the posts there.

There's a lot of misinformation around. I'll advise you guys to check the git release notes and avoid reading stuff which is not true. It's easy to read and comes straight from developers. 0.20.2 is the main one.

@oclinton

thank you. very helpful indeed!

Ok. Thanks

Your balance is below $0.3. Your account is running low and should be replenished. You have roughly 10 more @dustsweeper votes. Check out the Dustsweeper FAQ here: https://steemit.com/dustsweeper/@dustsweeper/dustsweeper-faq

Since I spend so much time on researching, writing and preparing posts so they can be published, and I can hardly keep up with comments and replies, I don't have a lot of time left to read.

I have a few autovotes set up for usersof which I know they publish quality content that interests me.

Further, I have set up a lot of my friends in Ginabot, so I get a notification when thfy pubish a new post. This doesn't mean I will always upvote those post.

I made a deal with myself to only upvote posts that either interest me or give me some valuable information.

The little time I have left I browse SteemIt tags, looking for undervalued posts made by smaller accounts. I strongly believe in rewarding quality posts from newcomers, since sometimes a little motivation can make the difference betwwen staying and leaving...

I vote for those who I see making an effort to visit my blog. I rarely use my feed. If your commenting / upvoting my topics I try to show the same support back.

Hello @maxinpower, your question is interesting, because it makes you think about what you are doing in steemit.
Particularly my voting power is very small, I just delegate something so that it has something of relevance.
In these months that I have on the platform, I joined a Spanish language support trail, to which I gave part of my voting power.
Once I delegate, if I have allowed myself to read a few more articles, to have a better vision of what to vote (I emphasize that manually), apart from supporting a good post, also having some return in steempower, I'm interested , like many to upload it, to be able to continue generating personal benefits as well as for the community.
I also self-vote, of course, because of what you say about ROI.
You made mention of knowing in person the users, that gives another vision of them, of what they write, you have a lot of reason, it completely changes the perspective you had about that person that you only knew through the written word.
Later I also want through @minnowbooster to generate votes. But it is in the future.
And totally agree, the discussions in social networks do not lead to anything.

For the most part, I vote for what i like. There are certain people i follow on here who post good content regularly. I tend to browse them most days and will always vote for a quality post. There are people who I know that are here for the long term so I have no problem voting for their content and giving them a boost.

I'm lucky enough to be part of a few good communities so that puts me in contact with good authors and good steemians. I don't self vote but i am here to profit so whatever works for you.

Hey @maxinpower ;-)

Since i've started in January 2018 i started in the german- community and there was a lots of help on the side to help me spread my words and the Posts.

I'm using the steemdunk.xyz with 20/20 Users in the autoVote which are the base of the followship that i have. i read a lot of Posts using my Feed and that's the interests i follow up in the end.

Blockchain technology posts and cryptopost's theres a lot in steemit so this is one part that i can't vote them all but good travel posts and photography are my vote-base ;-)

Community aspected Posts are welcome for me to vote them up when it helps the whole community.

thanks @rivalzzz, interesting insight in how do handle it.

These days, it seems my posts are read way less than last year. Somehow it feels most votes I get are auto votes or from curation trails. I guess if I didn't put a bounty on this one, I wouldn't get so many comments.

However cheers for stopping bye. Just noticed I wasn't following you yet so I corrected that mistake :)

Since I'm an alt account, the biggest part of my voting is automated. There is little time for manual voting.

If I do curate manually, I try to stay within my niche.

To be honest, commenting is absolutely limited. This account was created because I didn't want to spam my own feed with Steepshot pictures of my garden during summer. It's not really working out, but for some reason I can't say goodbye to it yet. So, since this is a third account I manage, there's simply no time left to go around commenting.
Except for moments like this, when I've hsd ith the day to day SteemIt regime, and want to relax a bit before I go to sleep

hehehe get ready for a long long comment!

Who do you vote?

The ones i vote first and foremost are the ones i am following who are people i handpicked and found manually thus i like their posts. Aside from that if i see a resteem like your post for example that interests me i will read and upvote it too.

Finally, i try when i have the time to check manually for completely new posts from people i don't know and if i deep them quality even if it's not that interesting in my eyes i will upvote them too!

What kind of comment and what users do you favour?

Honestly this is a very easy question. Any user that don't spams or somehow abuse the platform will earn my favour and some upvotes in their comments too. If they are new i will also check their posts and try to give back to them with an upvote to one of their posts too!

Do you use auto-voting or curation trails or do you do it the old-fashioned manual way?

I have never used auto-voting or curation trail but i am not against it. I prefer to manually upvote everything and also read as much as i can. I don't like to upvote post that i have no clue what they are talking about even though due to my time i will do that but only to the people i trust and i am following a long time

I tend to try and read the posts and then make a comment too and after all this i upvote it too. This is the best case scenario for me but as i said due to time i can't always do it

How much do you drain your voting power?

I try per day to have my power around 85% but most of the times ti goes at 79% and there is were i put a stop. I wanted to have way more sp in order to give much higher upvotes as i believe the majority of the articles i upvote deserve way more but i have to do what i can given my current sp.

Thank you for your comment. Sounds like a healthy way to use this platform.

Generally I keep my voting power above 80% If I feel like really supporting certain content, then I don't care, I just vote 100% I have a wide variety of tastes from Buddhism, Philosophy, Psychology, Technology, Cryptocurrency, Economics, Privacy, Entertainment, Anime etc. I'm also involved with the @akibasteem anime community and act as a Discord mod too. Just go to https://steemit.com/tags and you'll find many stuff to read and vote for.

But I have to mention that there are 2 kids of posts that get special attention from me. Charity and rewards. Go to https://fundition.io once a week and check out the available projects. Read about what they are doing and drop some 100% votes. There are truly amazing projects that you can wholeheartedly support. I also check out @familyprotection @kedjom-keku

I also vote on https://steemhunt.com because I love technology and I get few Hunt Tokens every time I vote someone.

I do my voting in the old fashion manual way but Have Smartsteem and Minnowbooster set up to vote when my VP is over 99%

Hope this info helped :-)

thank you, gonna check out the links and tags later.

I live in the land of anime but somehow I never really digged into it. Dunno why, but these days I'm not into watching anything at all, except some children show together with my daughter.

I try to always upvote any post i find worthy of commenting in. I think there's no point in commenting in a post that you can't support with an upvote regardless of how small the upvote is. i also visit the blogs of those that upvote my post and return the favour. I follow just one curation trail (christian-trail), they supported me a lot when i started here, i just thought that it would be nice to be in the trail to support other people. I try to read through a post before upvoting because i try to drop a reasonable comment on each of the post i go through. It's one of the ways I've been getting some little support here.

To be honest I often vote these days without reading the articles. It’s all a matter of time

I favour users, who place meaningful comments, related to the topic of my post.

I currently do not use any auto-voting or curation trails, but would consider using it in case, when I would be absent from the platform for few days for any reason. In general, I prefer old fashioned manual curation.

With Voting Power I try not to go below 60-70 per cent, eventhough it happens from time to time.

I can pretty much rely to your comment, that is about how i do it.
How about voting on articles, not on comments? Any preferences?

A note: if I understand right, the rewards for self-voting are no longer paid (as are votes that are given within the first 15 minutes after publication of an article).

Well, you still could vote for yourself after the 15 minute deadline

Upvote
As small as my voting is i upvote people whose post are interesting to especially when it involved economics stuff.

I honestly upvoted everyone who upvoted me ,then i realized something was happening to my $. Iam also learning there is auto upvote?(iam new). I Am trying to learn what steem is all about ,unfortunately since iam young and iam yet to get attention ,my learning process needs to be faster and thats a unique issue all by itself,i am hoping to improve my voting behaviour...whats the benefit of upvoting everyone i like ,or all who just to make an effort?

Estoy usando, ruta de curación, estoy del viaje y, el internet es muy limitado, en esta semana que paso, ni voto ni comentario

Hmm, would like to meet you n person to gain your vote 😉

Well for me, I use too much automation in voting. I use to auto-vote all my posts. I do auto-vote few Steemians whom I consider as my close friends but I keep rotating this list after some interval. I also do vote-exchanges and vote-selling through bots. These days, I don't read too much. So I only do manual upvoting for comments on my own posts. And since my VP used to be very low, I used to use tipping services like tipu before the launch of steem-bounty. Just a week prior to the hardfork, I stopped vote-selling. Now my VP is sitting at almost 100% and I'm wondering how to use it as I haven't done too much manual voting for a long time. Let's see how it goes.

I vote for valuable and thoughtful content, it doesn't matter what it is, as long as I like it and it feels right, I will upvote it.

In terms of voting in comments, most of the times I reward my readers that leave a good comment in my posts.

I have setted an automatic vote selling when my voting power reaches 98%, that allows me to never waste it, and at the same time I´m able to vote what I want and enjoy when I´m online. ("the old-fashioned manual way")

My voting power never goes below 78%, and I will recommend you never to go below 80%, because that would take you ages to fill back up, and will take away a lot of your impact in the community.

I vote on anyhing I find that I think is high quality or just beautiful (since I can't value quality in art lol).
Self-vote: Yes. After all, if I would not find it important and good, I would not have written it, right?

I very seldom upvote things (except SBI) that I haven't at least read a bit. And I also try to find opposite opinions.

My voting power is of no concern, I never find 10 really good posts a day. So I sell my remaining VP, that increases my votes for the good stuff, after all.

I vote for the following steemians:

  • those who put up great content in Utopian
  • those who offers great translation service in Davinci
  • my friends who follow me
  • my friends who comment
  • those new visitors who vote and comment
I keep to about 10 votes a day and at maximum maybe 20 so that the VP is not drained.

I never used an auto voter and had been very busy to support as much steemians as possible for over two years now.
Atm I have slowed my speed down and vote mostly friends aka steemians which I know a longer time period.
Shared with my followers.

Very interesting your question @maxinpower. In my case I tend not to follow many voting trails since I do not have enough SP. However I like to always support the original content, especially scientific, technological, related to the Blockchain. In the same way, they call my attention after art, literature, music. I think the most important thing is that all that content is quite original and can contribute to the community, educating each person who reads the post. Regards!

helpful post

So i have a few favourite authors I upvote myself regularly and I'll always upvote content I really enjoy regardless of the author. I don't often upvote comments unless its a really good one, well thought out and I feel the person is genuine or id just send them a donation. I also sell a small part of my vote now and then so when im sleeping or busy and cannot use my VP i feel its worth selling
