It is now Day 2 of the Daily Steemit Selfie Challenge!
Our registered players are competing against each other in an elimination endurance contest where their selfies must be posted on a daily basis and must meet the theme qualifications. Not only must they post their qualifying selfies prior to the deadline to avoid elimination, they are also competing against one another for bonus points. In each round, I will reward at least two selfies with bonus points.
BONUS POINTS FOR DAY 1
On Day 1, the players had to take a selfie with a plant. A lot of the entries were great, but a few stuck out from the rest. I have awarded the following photos each 1 Bonus Point, which will be converted to SBD and paid out later on in the contest. As always, have fun and get creative, but above all, be safe!

DAY 2 : ANIMAL
For Round 2, all you have to do is take a selfie with a live animal in the photo. Reply to this post with your qualifying selfie by 11:15 am (CST) to avoid elimination. As always, no entry post is required, but you are free to make a post featuring your entry if you want to. By entering this contest you are giving me full permission to use your entries in future contest posts. Thanks and have fun!

This was tricky not having a pet so I went walking around the city walked about 2 miles and tried to get shots with dogs but they and the owners walked on by, eventually got these rats of the sky AKA Pigeons in the background with Bahbahra in the foreground so I think this may qualify to keep me here for another day

Here is me and my baby boy, Colt! He is a 110 pound Rottweiler that was born in 2009 on the military base Fort Bragg in North Carolina. He was given to me as a Christmas present from my squad while I was a patrol sergeant for my local sheriff's department. My previous Rottweiler had passed away that previous summer, so my squad thought it would be a good gesture to get me this new puppy to help move forward. I wasn't ready for this spawn of satan at first but he has grown to be my best friend as well as a family member! I love him very much and actually wrote a blog about him when I first joined steemit. And so the time has come to post! It would have been easy to grab a cat for the shot, but decided to take a walk in Bird Island Park this afternoon to see what I could come up with. Not a single bird was in sight, but behind me you can see 5 turtles - the one in the upper right is a snapping turtle! There were 15 turtles in all hanging out there!

Whiskers was originally named Scion, after the car he was found in. @xtrodinarypilot was out on a rainy day and Whiskers jumped under the hood and rode the 40 miles home under there. Mars, one of our three rescue cats, was first discovered in a very odd place, stuck on the awning of a window at the top of an apartment building after meowing plaintively for three nights and days. Nobody could figure out where that sad sound was coming from or how he got there. Thankfully, at four months of age, Mars received prompt veterinary care and became one of our three feline companions.
The first six months were the most difficult: he was intensely fearful, and only ventured out to eat and do his business when the other cats were sleeping. The rest of the time was spent hiding under our bed. The animal shelter originally called him Jinmi (Golden Kitty in Chinese), but he was rechristened Mars because of his supposed resemblance to an alien (he goes crazy from time to time, racing back and forth in the apartment while meowing).
5-month-old Mars (notice the nose injury. Mars is also missing teeth, so he can't eat crunchy fish like the other cats.
Mars shows an intense love for me, and frequently seeks me out for a soothing massage or a pat on his rump. I have even caught him from time to time spaced out in the clothes hamper inhaling the powerful underarm BO emanating from my dirty underwear: he is literally drooling, with glazed eyes as if on a drug high. Thus, after stressful visits to the vet, I sometimes use an old T-shirt as a comfort blanket.

Yeah, I got home later than I imagined. There wasn't much time left to take a usable selfie, pare down the file size, write/edit/proofread a pleasing text and obtain photo links (postimg.org was experiencing difficulties, so I had to go to another site). To top it off, I had momentary trouble with the login process, and the contest page itself took a bit of time to load. It was only Day 2, but I almost didn't make it! Extremely stressful!
