Think how simple an idea it is, and yet it has brought so much life and joy to the world, the cookie cutter. Just a single piece of shaped metal, just sharp enough to cut through cookie dough but safe enough for anyone to use and not fear being cut, taking a treat we already love, cookies and providing them with a new form. There is the classic cookie man, used more often for gingerbread cookies, but there are hearts, animals, horses, cows, candycanes, trees, and everything else that you can imagine. As I have always said, shape and texture are just as important as flavor for us, and seeing a cute little cookie man always makes them taste a little better. It may be a trick of the mind but it absolutely works and brings another level to enjoy cookies on.
