In 1996 Coppala was at the forefront of a campaign against David Cronenberg's "Crash", imo one of the greatest movies of all time. It premiered at Cannes and he did all he could to try and stop it from receiving any awards attention. It was controversial already, unsurprisingly. People were outraged at the combination of pornagraphic content mixed with the violence and trauma of automobile accidents. It still received recognition, much to the washed up director's chagrin.
When confronted with a film of unwavering artistic integrity this wine salesman acted like the corpulent, spoiled brat he is, refusing to even acknowledge Cronenberg at the Cannes awards ceremony. He would go on to make nothing of cinematic value for the rest of his career. His supposedly high morals against sexual impropriety were not to be found on the set of his latest self-financed flop, where he groped and kissed actresses on set. The man is trash and I hope this has been thoroughly humiliating for him.
