Many people are confused, thinking they mean the same thing, so let's see the difference.
What Is a Content Writer?
Content Writers craft an array of different content types using written text, mainly long-form that's usually Search Engine Optimised (SEO).
A Content Writer crafts a text, bearing in mind the use of keywords, Meta tags, and how to link the text body to other pieces of content. The texts could be articles, blog posts, magazine features, pieces in a newspaper, white papers, etc.
What Is a Copywriter?
A copywriter acts as an advertising vehicle, specialising in short-form copy, including headlines, press ads, or subheadings.
Of course, this doesn't mean Copywriters don’t write long-form copy. A copywriter takes credit for crafting various campaigns where the marketing material serves to convince the audience to either think or act in a certain way (predominantly – to buy).
Generally, this comes in the form of short copy or telling stories that evoke emotions and construct a personal connection with the reader. Brevity for a copywriter is of paramount importance.
As Copywriters evolve to combine strategic writing with fascinating content, they may just pick the succulent fruits of both worlds.
- The purpose of the first ones is to inform - content writers.
- The purpose of the second ones is to sell - copywriters.
