Coral snakes, chilli snakes or coralillos are a group of poisonous snakes of the Elapidae family of tropical zones. They are characterized by their vivid colors, among which yellow, red and black predominate.


There are two groups of coral snakes: the group of coral snakes of the Old World, which includes 16 species, grouped into 2 genera (Calliophis and Sinomicrurus); and the group of New World coral snakes, composed of 73 species, grouped into 3 genera (Leptomicrurus, Micrurus and Micruroides).
