Confusing 'extra arm' spotted in government graphic urging people to stay home

The UK Prime Minister's official Twitter account has been tweeting a series of images to tell people to stay home during the coronavirus pandemic, but one has sparked strange debate.

With the blockade extended until at least May 7, it is imperative that we all continue to do our utmost to help fight the coronavirus.

The more we follow the guidelines for staying home and using social distancing, the sooner we can return to normalcy.

It's a government-powered message with messages on television, as well as places like Spotify and social media.

The UK Prime Minister's verified Twitter account @ 10DowningStreet has been using a series of graphics with the message 'To stay safe there is no place like home' as part of the campaign.

But one of the images used that shows two women sharing a bowl of popcorn overnight on the couch with the dog has drawn attention on social media for a very different reason.

Some Twitter users think they saw a strange extra arm resting on one leg, arguing that the hand doesn't seem to belong to either of them, nor to the dog.

One asked, "Where does the black arm with sleeves come from?"

Another replied: "This image is strange: what is happening under the bowl and from whom does the dog's hand come out?"

A third said: "Hundreds of Britons stayed home to find out whose arm it was. Good strategy."

Trying to solve the illusion, one suggested, "Maybe the dog is almost finished eating the next-door neighbor?"

Some gave a more rational answer, suggesting that it belongs to the woman on the left, with angles and shadows playing tricks on the mind.

One wrote: "It's not photoshop, the blonde-haired girl has long arms, her sleeve is in the shade, so she looks dark!"

Another, clearly frustrated by suggestions that the dog had been in an uproar, argued, "Why are the people in the responses struggling with this?

"Each one has a hand on the bowl, the mysterious arm is the woman's left hand on the beige top, you can see the edge of her beige sleeve in the shadow if you zoom in (not a black sleeve)" .
