Hey, Katrina here aka GeekUnique Cosplay here to talk about this con season. The convention scene has been absolutely AMAZING this year. Our last major event Megacon was attended by 20,000 people! That is a huge number, but it is not unheard of now for cons to have 10k + people attending. Now that geek seems to be more "mainstream," how do you feel about that?
For me it's a double edge sword. On one hand I love our reach is growing. I get to meet fun new people from all over the globe when I go to cons, but at times things can get toxic. There can be a lot of infighting amongst groups. Also, many of us are not lovers of crowds. I myself like smaller and larger cons for different reasons, but with geek culture expanding, it begs the question: Are we TOO mainstream now?
Food for thought. Comment below.
