Paul's preaching to the Gentiles led the early Church towards a schism, many converts wondered if the law of Moses should be practiced with the ten commandments and the practice of circumcision, Peter or Cephas, who was of Jewish origin, was in favor of this idea.
Paul in all his teachings is precise, the law does not give us the grace to follow Jesus, as happened to the rich young man who complied with all the law but for his love of money he could not follow the path of the Lord: "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money" Matthew 6:24.
The freedom of the spirit, the new covenant, that Paul tells us is beyond the law of Moses, Jesus tells us, ´our neighbor matters´. The path of Jesus is the path of mercy (compassion), as the father of the prodigal son, and the path of righteousness like the good Samaritan, Jesus puts us in front of a choice that is not part of the Law, we sin or we live righteously. The doctrine of the Kingdom of God has ethical foundations, to enter the kingdom of heaven is to live ethically, because all the spiritual gifts are good by definition.
And it is here that the concept of spiritual circumcision appears, the gift of justification, a special help to live according to the spirit. By the faith in Jesus, and not by the works of the law, we are justified Paul tells us, and by this faith and justification we can be partakers of the Kingdom of Jesus and of his communion: "We who are Jews by birth and not sinful Gentiles know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified" Galatians 2:15-16.
