Living according to the flesh: You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. James 4:2

The beatitudes and the misfortunes taught by Jesus in the gospel of Luke (Luke 6:20-26), explain to us that there are behaviors ordered to rewards and behaviors ordered to punishments. The Beatitudes are the foundation of the science of ethics, this is the starting point of all the teachings given by the master Jesus; whether we like it or not, the spiritual question is like this, it is not a question of points of view; when it comes to human behavior things are black or white, there are no greys, we are friends or enemies of God. Jesus rejected lukewarm Christians: "So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth" Revelations 3:16.
That is why Jesus told us clearly, when he announced the Kingdom of Heaven to men: "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters" Matthew 12:30. The enemies of Jesus were the men who accepted to living according to the flesh, like the Pharisees and many doctors of the Law, men who took profit from the oppression and ignorance of common and simple people: "And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them" Luke 11:46.
This is why the gospels tell us about the importance of submitting to God and his law: "Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another", John 13:34. If we live according to the flesh we cannot be friends of our neighbor, selfishness and greed become heavy burdens on the mind of man: "What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight" James 4:1-2.
