Updated boosters are important. All vaccines until now have been aimed at the original Wuhan strain, which hasn't been in circulation for a long time. These boosters are 50/50 wuhan and BA.4-5, and should really help.
Even before these BA.5 boosters, being up to date reduced your risk of death from COVID about 3x over just the baseline vaccinations, and around 15x vs. unvaccinated. With BA.5 being the dominant strain, these new boosters should be extremely effective.
I just got boosted, and will probably delay mine until October in preparation for a winter wave. But whatever, you should get one in the next month or two. This kind of update is what makes mRNA vaccines such a game changer.
If you have recently been infected, you can get the updated boosters as soon as you are recovered. Though it is okay to wait up to 3 months after you get infected to get the booster.
