This article argues convincingly against the claim that the pandemic began with the deliberate release of a virus that had been genetically engineered with the purpose of harming humans. If that's what you believe, you should read it. But the short form is simply stated: We don't know enough to do that kind of thing on purpose (yet).
That said, this article does NOT argue against the claim that a natural virus might have been captured, brought to a lab, modified through non-genetic-engineering methods, and leaked unintentionally, after which it harmed humans. A lot of the article's key assertions are completely irrelevant to assessing the plausibility of that scenario.
I don't assert that any of the second scenario actually happened either, but it is the scenario that the more serious observers are asking about. And if you're looking to be dissuaded from it, you won't be here.
