Where are we with the lab leak conspiracy?

Handy chart from the National Intelligence Council on what "likely" and "low/medium confidence" mean in one place. Pretty much only "high confidence" has any real certainty. Though as we saw with the Iraq War intelligence even "high confidence" can sometimes be wrong.

From what I can gather I believe the FBI and DOE have medium and low confidence respectively in a lab leak scenario of an accidental leak of a natural virus. The NIC and four other agencies have low confidence in zoonotic natural origins. And the CIA and another agency are undecided. The DOE made its assessment in regards to the Wuhan Chinese CDC lab. I don't believe it is known which lab the FBI has in mind. The FBI and DOE reportedly came to their assessments based off of different analysis.

The only consensus among the agencies is that it wasn't an engineered bioweapon. On the main question of lab leak versus zoonotic origins there isn't a consensus.

Of course the elephant in the room is China's lack of cooperation, so who knows if this will ever be resolved with any certainty.

The scientific community generally favors zoonotic origins based on some circumstantial evidence. But we do not have a known reservoir host for the virus or know the progenitor virus. Generally the scientific community believes there is an unknown intermediate host animal given characteristics of SARS-COV-2. The closest known relative of SARS-COV-2 is BANAL-52, a horseshoe bat coronavirus found in Laos that has 96.8% nucleotide similarity with SARS-COV-2. It has a similar Receptor Binding Domain, but 96.8% is actually quite evolutionary distant.
