Most people that get vaccine-associated myocarditis fully recover at follow-up with their doctor. With 94% of the remainder improved compared to their initial diagnosis. Patients also report no impact on their quality of life at follow-up. And we've seen no vaccine-associated myocarditis deaths.

With the mRNA coronavirus vaccines, there is a rare risk of myocarditis. The risk is highest among young adult and teen males, and highest after the second dose. We haven't seen an elevated risk among young children. Likewise the risk has been much lower for the booster doses. Onset is in the first week after vaccination.

Keep in mind coronavirus infection itself causes myocarditis. The risk of myocarditis from coronavirus infection is higher for all ages and sexes. It is also more severe with a worse prognosis. And myocarditis is not the only health risk from COVID infection. Coronavirus vaccination helps reduce your risk of infection, the severity of COVID, and emerging evidence suggests it reduces your risk of Long COVID after a breakthrough infection.
