Hospitalizations declining some in the deep South, hot spots developing further north.

  1. Alaska, Idaho, Washington, Kentucky, W Virginia, S Carolina all at/near all-time highs for hospitalizations. (Graphs for Ohio and Montana may appear truncated so recent spike isn't visible; click to see full image.)

  2. This virus puzzles me. I thought we'd see outbreaks after the BLM protests and recent Garth Brooks concert here in KC. What surprises me is that Delta hasn't spread much faster in areas where it's not taken seriously. My guess is there are many more infections than we know, but for some reason these people don't develop symptoms. But even so, I'm surprised at how easy it is to curb the virus' spread. (Recent results from a randomized controlled trial in Bangladesh confirm what we already know: masking reduces spread.)

  3. I'm still angry at being told there are just as many "experts" opposed to school masking as for it. Next they'll tell me gravity is a hoax perpetrated by the parachute industry. I challenge anyone to find a single children's hospital on the record with a statement opposing masking in schools, because I can name 68 on the record supporting it.
