Environmental samples from the Huanan market in Wuhan indicated the presence of SARS-COV-2 viral sequences alongside animal DNA. The animal DNA in the environmental samples came from animals that an earlier preprint never sampled at the market.
This preprint was unable to find any SARS-COV-2 positive animal samples at the market, but now we know that some animals that were at the market and at SARS-COV-2 positive sites were not sampled. These animal species were susceptible to SARS-COV-2 infection, so they could potentially be an intermediate host for the virus.
We know these animals were at the market as well. We have photographic evidence of these animals in the market as late as November and December 2019.
The Chinese are saying they are updating the preprint with the new data, and going to submit it to Nature for publication.
