What does the Unicef vaccine poll of Ukraine tell us about their current pandemic situation?

UNICEF did a vaccine poll in Ukraine from September-October.

Of the unvaccinated, 42.3% wanted to get vaccinated. 54.6% did not.

Overall about 60% of Ukrainians are interested in getting vaccinated or already have. These numbers are actually slightly lower than last April's UNICEF poll. Vaccine interest was very high in people over 60 last April, but that seems to not have materialized into vaccinations as only about a quarter of people over 60 are vaccinated.

The patterns regarding reasons for not getting vaccinated are very similar to the United States. Of the people that do not want to get vaccinated, only 38% consider SARS-COV-2 a threat. Most of the vaccine refusers think the vaccine is more of a risk than the virus, and do not trust vaccines.

Unsurprisingly much like the United States, among those vaccinated or wanting to be vaccinated the vast majority would listen to their doctor's advice on vaccination. Only about a third of the vaccine refusers would listen to their doctor's advice on vaccination.

Shockingly about a quarter of this group also believe they have a medical contraindication to getting vaccinated. It has been a persistent myth in Ukraine that a lot of the comorbidities that put you at high risk for severe COVID like cardiovascular issues are contraindications for getting vaccinated. It is exactly the other way around. Those individuals are the most critical to vaccinate. Aside from allergic contraindications to specific vaccines/ingredients, virtually everyone else can get vaccinated.
