The New York Times published an article titled "Covid Absolutism" on Friday that explores the unintended consequences of "hygiene theater."“Telling Americans to wear masks when they’re unnecessary undermines efforts to persuade more people to wear masks where they are vital,” Times writer David Leonhardt explains.
It seems to me that the same crowd that screams shrilly how anti-maskers are anti-science are largely guilty of the same thing. Stupidity triggers me. Especially stupidity combined with hypocrisy. Stupidity like the University of Berkeley banning solitary outdoor exercise. Let that sink in for a moment.
Sure, there may be people in certain circumstance for whom wearing masks (or wearing masks around) is potentially helpful. But at the end of the day, if you are in a high risk group for death or serious complications due to COVID-19 then you need to take steps to protect yourself and not rely on others to do it for you. You don't half-ass it if you legitimately fear for your life. But nobody (well not most people anyway) is going to take seriously those who claim banning solitary outdoor activity is somehow going to protect you. As Biden might say, "Come on, man!"
