I have posted a lot of jewelry projects and craft experiments. Most went well, but this is not going very well at all.
A friend showed me a d20 (an icosahedral die) in a jump ring mesh satchel of sorts as a necklace charm. I thought I could make something similar with these gears. I started linking them into a dodecahedron, but these gears are beastly to work with. Funny thing about the teeth. They interfere with everything. Who would have guessed? Further, the size is all wrong. Even if I finish linking all of the gears, this will be way too large for a d20 or these spindown dice I have on hand from Magic: The Gathering.
I will reconsider the project. If anything comes of it, expect an addendum in the comments below.
Unfortunately, not every creative attempt is a success! But most of yours are.

Have you considered soldering the gears into a similar shape instead of jump rings.

I would need to build a jig to hold them at the right angle for that. And a solid structure would defeat the purpose of potentially including clasps to unlock the die. But the shape itself might be a fun experiment. I should count the teeth to see of they would mesh evenly.

Maybe I should try an octahedron. I made this work for now, but it looks like utter shit.
