I only have these two bits of documentation of this sculpture. One terrible photo and one short video clip that I turned into a GIF. Sorry about this but apparently I only had a small point and shoot camera with me or I lost all my other images from when I made this in Jelgava, Latvia.
Continuing on my mission to document ever ephemeral sculpture that I have made you will have to forgive me for this but it deserves it's own post if not just for the idea behind it.
The theme of the overall project was 'Love' and for my first piece which was made from a small 1 meter by 50cm by 25cm block was a fun piece to make. I had based it on a kinetic sculpture I made in college. The original was made from wood and it had the appearance of a perpetual motion machine driven with marbles.
Nothing can be created or destroyed
The marbles would fall from a height and hit a little wheel which was connected by cogs up through the sculpture to the top where they would turn a large Archimedes screw mechanism which would lift the marbles back to the top repeating their journey addinfinitem. I had a little motor hidden inside one of the cogs that would bend the laws of physics in my favor.
But change from one form into another
For this ice piece I replaced the marbles with little hearts being risen up by the screw only to fall and break to the bottom, then miraculously they would mend and continue on to their next love affair.
I suppose a lot could be read about my own love life at that time from this piece but that's another story.
Again I am sorry for not having more for you regarding pictures. It's a pity really as I really like how it looked in its final lighting and the separate pieces coming together to form the machine seems like they could really spring into action even if my love life was all seized up.
