interlude

The storm was coming. The dark blue starless sky above the city was gradually clouded with black clouds. Occasionally, lightning flashed over the roofs of nine-story buildings and a couple of times came the rumble of thunder.
The black Panamera stopped in the driveway. Steam rose from its shiny surface. The evening lights reflected off the chrome wheels. The Windows were tinted and so Alex could not see who was in the car. Not that he cared.
Everyone thought the guy was preoccupied with the others. On the iPhone screen, he studied the laughing face of a classmate who hadn't been online in three hours. Two of his messages were unread, as well as in the instagram direct. The last post was just three hours ago-Julia took a picture of her slender hips in the cabin of some car and it was not her father's "Toyota".
Have them with Julia were excellent relations, but sometimes, times in month or two, in it as if was possessed by demon and she could gap. Followed by the showdown and fight for at least a week. After Julia became kind and sweet, again pleased parents and teachers exemplary behavior and good grades.
Alex hid the phone in his pocket — he was not any good. All classmates long slept and even to communicate was not with whom. Mothers he lied to, that is gone to spend the night to Vitke, promised well themselves to wage and of course with morning go in school — began a new quarter of.
Vitek himself sent him a crazy smile in response to a photo of a bouquet of white roses, which Alex bought in the subway.
"Are you sick?"that was the friend's reply. “She's out walking, and you're dragging flowers to her like a heel!".
— ” The last time this " - responded Lyosha in telegram. “"I'll try to say not to walk, if not, then goodbye!".
"Aha, I know your goodbyes!” — Vitek sent guaraldi smile and disappeared. s1200 (5).jpg
Alex pulled the hood deeper on his head. Although he stood under the canopy, but the warm wind still blew there drops of autumn rain and forced to shiver. In the large square courtyard of the new building, the Windows were gradually extinguished. It was long past midnight. The rose leaves he clutched in his fist behind his back were wet, and when he took them out to shake his hand, he could not help but stare at the large, glistening drops that slid over the delicate white buds and dark green leaves. Raindrops rained down on the flagstones and the streetlights sparkled in the spray.
He didn't know why he was doing it. Why is worth waiting for. Apparently the belief that all they have is Julia going to be okay, that it will cease to disappear, forced to cling to the thread that still connected them. Still held good memories. The years spent together. In which there was much joy and love. Joint trips to all sorts of cottages, birthdays.
Time passed and apparently ran out completely. Gradually she began to move away. She was no longer so happy around him, and meetings became less frequent.
Lyosha felt for the pack in his pocket. The entire evening why something not pulled quit Smoking, and now very wanted. He took out one cigarette and flicked the lighter for a while, the wind constantly blowing out the fire, preventing him from lighting it. At last he inhaled the bitter smoke of Parliament, and his eyes watered. A lump rose in her throat. The Panamera never left. His engine was barely audible. Smoke billowed from the exhaust. The shivering caused raindrops to roll down the shiny black surface, leaving wet tracks. From the cabin came the bass hum of a sub.
Finally the door opened and made there withdrew Yulka. She was wearing a short black dress and high heels, which further elongated her slender bare legs. As always, have Lyosha intercepted breath, when he saw its such dressed up.
Julia put her hands to her face with a visor, protecting her painted eyelashes, and ran to the entrance, clicking her heels. Alex immediately threw the cigarette into the wet grass and handed the bouquet to her friend.

  • Lesh, you that still not sleep? — instead of a greeting she asked, when he got under the visor.
She was running a little out of breath and her chest heaved. She smelled of alcohol and was in a cheerful mood . Her beautiful face was slightly flushed and her eyes sparkled with happiness, as did the raindrops on her long blond hair.
    — I wanted to talk to you, ' replied the young man, and held out the bouquet. "That's for you, by the way."
  • Thank You, Lyosha! — cheerfully replied the girl, taking the flowers. "But you shouldn't have waited so late."
She inhaled the scent of the roses with pleasure, smiling her special smile. Lyosha admired it and already began to forget why he came. He awoke a minute later.
    — Where have you been?"
"I was out with my friends."
    "Do your friends race Panamera?"
Julia frowned and her cheerful mood was a little clouded.
"Look, I can go out and have fun sometimes, what's the big deal?"
    — Nothing, - Lyosha evil shook his head. — But me the although would could warn?
    — You're not my daddy!" — Julia laughed, again dohow alcohol. Alex winced.
    "If it happens again!"..
    "What?" the girl interrupted.
  • Then we will stop communicating!
"Pfft! she laughed again. — Do you think I'll be alone?"
Lesha for a short time was taken aback by such a statement.
    — Well, that means all of our years have been for nothing.
    — We had a lot of good, gently smiled Julia. "But everything comes to an end.
Lyosha was stunned into silence. Thoughts left his mind. It seemed that this proposal about the breakup he wanted to punish Julia, but in the end, she turns herself to him sought. And now, when this was happening in reality, he not believed that this all. That it would end like this.
It was like a bad dream. Coming here, he firmly was am confident in itself and in is, that without doubts will abandon Yulka, if she not will improve. But now that it had happened, his mind was confused and the asphalt seemed to rock beneath his feet. The light seemed to have faded and the feeble lanterns were no longer able to disperse the autumn darkness.
  • Yula! U allright?
A Negro peered out of the Panamera. Lesha stared at him in surprise.
  • Okay, Chris! the girl shouted back.
    — Who are you?" suddenly Alex heard his own voice. Julia angrily looked at the guy.
  • Stop it, it's just a friend!
"Is that your girlfriend?" - evil protsedil Lyosha.
The Negro got out of the car and strode toward the couple standing under the porch awning, oblivious to the rain, which quickly soaked his light shirt, unbuttoned over his broad chest. Alex did not wait for him and went down three steps.
    — She's my girlfriend, you hear?" - the guy himself did not expect such anger from himself.
Always calm and cheerful, he had first encountered this burning feeling of jealousy, and now he was acting on automatic, losing control of his mind.
The Negro did not speak. Apparently, it was not in his rules to sort things out and argue with someone. Quickly approaching the white guy, he swung and hit him.
The blow hit his cheekbone. Alex lost his balance and, as it awkwardly staggered, fell on the sidewalk. As he fell, he put out his right elbow, but it slid on the wet concrete bench and the guy fell even lower, hitting his head on the corner in the process. He froze on the wet concrete.
The offender stood over him, waiting for what would happen next, and whether this puny boy to rise. It rained incessantly. Julie's scream cut through the night.

The hospital room was quiet. Just barely audible hissing of the ventilator. The black pleated sleeve rose and fell. The lights were dimmed. Lesha's eyes were closed. A tube is inserted in the mouth. Her shoulder-length blond hair lay on a snowy pillow. His handsome, thin face was even more haggard. There was a bruise on his cheek. On the forehead — a small gauze bandage. There were shadows under his eyes. Her plump lips were dry and cracked.
Julia squeezed his hand with her own and put her head on them. She couldn't remember how long she'd been sitting there. She inhaled the scent of his fingers, mingling the familiar scent of his skin with the sharp Tang of hospital drugs. Time passed slowly and she dozed off, just like that, sitting on the chair next to the bunk, reclining, her cheek pressed against his palm.
"How long will she be there?" one young nurse whispered to another.
"Who knows? Always have these youngsters all awry! "they stood outside the door of the ward in the corridor and occasionally peered through the crack.
— The guy is anything but! the nurse chuckled. - A that, modicum and in a coma, can be and with so to live!

  • Well, Yes, the allowance will be paid and okay! The main thing — not thumps! the second laughed.
    — It is necessary to close office for the night, it is time to expel the girl already.
  • Girl! the nurse called softly, poking her head into the room. - The Department is closing, go home!
Julia raised her head. Her eyes were bleary. Face was swollen and it was not painted, but even in this form she was pretty. She ran a hand through her disheveled hair.
    "Can I stay?"
"No, I don't! Forbidden! Come back tomorrow!
"I'll come tomorrow!" "what?" she whispered. - Only live!

The guy was falling into the abyss. The fall itself began from a sharp blow to the head. Pain shot through his temple like lightning. Everything spun before my eyes. The overturned black sky, the sparse shining Windows, the plafonds of dim lanterns mingled with the clusters of water that slowed their dance in the atmosphere. Alex saw in them the reflection of their eyes. The big black face floated sideways, and the brown paving slabs, covered with a layer of cold water, rushed in. And he dived into it.
The bright silver light of the myriad stars merged into a shining space. His eyes were dazzled by flashes, flashes, and the flickering of vague black shadows. With the exhalation, it ended abruptly. Time stood still in the darkness.
Alex felt weightlessness and cold wind. He opened his eyes.
