Household antiques

Introducing a few, small antiques from our Great grand parents time. Very big and small vessels and equipments were there.
For a long time they were kept in the cellar.
These days due to the difficulty in maintenance , people are seldom using it .
A few years back ,we got them polished. Now I am using the smaller ones to decorate my house.

Njettupetty - Used for keeping money at home. It is made of Rose wood

Chellam - It is a small box ,where chewing leaves and pan are kept. This is made of brass.

Cake vessel - Made of bronze . After pouring in the cake batter, this is placed on hot charcoal .A few pieces of charcoal are kept on top of the vessel also.

Kinddi - This is made of bronze ,used for keeping water for washing hands.

Mannenna Vilakku (Kerosene lamp) - Normally used where there is no electricity. It is placed on the table since it is small.

Nila Vilakku (Floor lamp) - It is normally kept on floor and oil is used as the fuel to light it.

Uruli - It is small frying pan , used in frying and to saute .

Waarppu - This is one of the medium size vessels ,used for cooking for a large family. Waarppu are of many sizes. Some of
them can be so huge . They are used for cooking food for a large crowd. This is made of bronze.

Vessels- These are other common vessels used in the preparation and serving of dishes.

Puttu kudam and kutty- Kudam is the base and is made of copper. Kutty is the top part and is a piece of bamboo.
Puttu is the name of the dish made in this. Rice flour and coconut with vegetables are used in making Puttu. Water is kept in the bottom part and flour mixture is kept in the bamboo.Steam from the water cooks the flour mixture. This is still a favourite dish among the people here . Most of them are using stainless steel vessels now.

I am not using these vessels for cooking . But they are used as flower vases or as the decorative items.
