A little about me and credit

in credit •  8 years ago

I have been dragging my heels abit lately, trying to get work done. Trying to make money. Awhile ago I was in a very bad relationship. It was toxic. And worse, my credit got nearly destroyed in that relationship. Now I am left to try and rebuild it all. That can be a difficult task, especially when pride and righteousness adjusts try to get in the way. The money I owe want accrued by me, it isn't technically owed by me and I shouldn't have to pay it back. So in my younger years I let all those debts fall into collections, ruining my credit while the vixen who created this mess is living the great life with great credit and for ask I know eating caviar and drinking champagne(probably not but you get the idea).
So how does one rebuild their life and their credit so they may one day get a mortgage and maybe finance a nice vehicle while maintaining a job, maybe get business loans to fund that dream job? It all starts by paying off the debts that aren't my fault. It sucks but it's what has to be done. This is why I haven't started building my beast of a computer yet. Because on to of paying of those debts, vehicles break down, appliances break down, school trips for my daughter, book fairs and every other thing you can imagine. This comes up for anyone in a similar situation. There isn't much you can do but muddle through and think positively. It will all get you where you want to go in the end if you are persistent.
My credit is bad, found that out when I went to apply for a mortgage. They couldn't believe that I wasn't aware of my credit score or how much I owed and to who. Thankfully I only have one creditor left, but it will take time to rebuild my credit. I'm doing this slowly. Capitol one have me a credit card, and using it and paying it off can help raise my credit score, but as long as it stays paid off or at least over three quarters full. Some say half but I would rather be safe. You have to use your credit to improve your credit.
It turns out my truck isn't worth fixing, so having to buy a newer one. Bad credit means I have to buy something, no financing for me.
Another thing that can lower your score is what's called a deep scan of your credit. There are surface scans which basically check your credit score, then there's deep scans that look into everything of your credit. It checks for payment defaults, if your owing creditors and absolutely anything else. One deep scan, maybe two isn't bad for your credit, but too many can be a bad sign. This can indicate that you have been turned down a lot for loans or credit cards and could be a risk. It's a factor that plays a part in determining your credit score and if someone should lend to you.
To sum up, keep an eye on your credit using trans Union or the other one whose name I can't currently remember. Don't let debts fall into collections. Don't take on more debt than you can handle. Focus on the necessities in life, only get the luxuries when it doesn't put you in massive debt. And above all else please remember that I am not by any means an expert in finances or debt and I hold no degree or diploma that qualifies me to give this advice. I learned all this recently. These are things I learned and I thought I would pass along this knowledge both to help anyone else in a similar situation, and to explain to any followers why I still cannot build that beast of a computer I promised. It will happen. Just delayed. Maybe when I get my new vehicle I will post any new repairs it may need and show how to fix the issues. We shall see.
