On Sept. 9, several prisons across the US went on strike. For some prisoners, the strike lasted several days, making it one of the longest in US history. Alabama's notorious Holman prison was at the forefront of this campaign. Even the guards stayed home from work in solidarity. Now it seems to have lead to real results.
The DOJ has begun investigating the entire prison system in the state of Alabama, which is unprecedented. Among it's focus on health of prisoners, and safety. There has been widespread reports of rape and sexual assault on prisoners by their fellow inmates and the guards.
