Just tossing this out there...
Can we flip the order of operations when it comes to sentencing people who have been convicted?
Just tell the person what he or she is gonna have to serve before you spend twenty minutes explaining the reasoning rather than the other way around.
Yeah, some people deserve the torture. Most people don't.
And another thing.
I know that most people won't take the time to do this. I have and I'm hoping that some people will take my word on this. I might be wrong from time to time; but, I don't lie.
If you actually watch the jury trials that are streamed publicly (as all should be) you should be terrified. You should be calling for basic law classes to be required in every public school because it's hard to find a prosecutor in a high profile case who doesn't lie about the law in order to try to throw an innocent person in prison.
The prosecutor in the Rittenhouse case claimed that Rittenhouse lost his right to claim self defense because he was armed. That was a lie. Even if you philosophically agree with him (which would make you an idiot), he was lying about the law. The prosecutor in the Kim Potter case lied about the legal definition of recklessness. The judge didn't correct the lie and an innocent woman is serving two years in prison because of it.
