Mass killings are increasing, and the perpetrators are mis-characterized as having "mental health problems", which is taken to mean "CRAZY". The evidence is that most of them plan in advance and take years developing rationales for their acts of extreme violence.
Gunshot deaths by accident and suicide are also frequent - even toddlers kill by accident, because it is push-button easy.
Then there are all the deaths and injuries from police shootings - which could be stopped if the police had no fear of citizens with guns. Many safer countries have un-armed front line police, and there are over 100 sovereign states with a HIGHER rate of assault and LOWER rate of murder - because guns are less available than in the US.
The "good guy with a gun" stopping criminals meme is also a myth in practice.
Take away the guns and people point towards knives right? Well..
It takes skill and determination to kill with a knife, and it is easier to defend because it is close range. Accidental knife killings are so rare as to be unheard of.
