Take a look at ClearPoll, a new blockchain for public opinion

in crypto-news •  7 years ago

Clearpoll is an important project with very interesting implications. It attempts to solve the problem of "fake news" and more importantly "fake public opinion" by using the blockchain to handle polling in a way where we can trust the results. As we know, Facebook likes can be bought, news can be faked, and public opinion might not really be what the media tells us it is (as we saw from the Trump election). Public opinion is critical to ethics and morality as well, because ultimately being perceived as ethical is about doing what public opinion deems right and avoiding what public opinion deems wrong, at any given time.

I encourage everyone to take a closer look at ClearPoll. This isn't investment advice and I don't want anyone to buy anything.

Fake public opinion is a serious issue as it can shape the thought process of the masses. As humans we believe there is a collective wisdom behind the thinking of many, 'if so many people believe in a subject, a political slant or an ideology then it must be true or legitimate'. Right?

Even if there isn't collective wisdom and we believe the many to be complete fools, we have an understanding that if many people think something that to go against it is to be seen as the fool and as wrong.

Conformity.

Totally agree, You only need to look at Nazi Germany for that example albeit an extreme one.

A very nice step taken..fake news are now a days available in social media so much that it becomes difficult to find the real one..

I will check this out! Thank you!!

This is amazing. This is going to change everything. OMG!!! I hope people understand the impact that true transparency can have on the world.

I'll take a look, great post. Thank you.

ooo yay I like the idea of this! Going to take a look now. Continually amazed at the good block-chain technology can do ^_^

Surely all this would give us is the opinions of people who like blockchain, and I doubt that such people are representative of the wider population.

As far as I'm aware Mori and PEW polls on public opinion are independent and while they may ask a very limited range of questions, at least they try and access a broad range of people.

Yes they have been terrible at predicting election results recently, but I think that's just because of the nature of that particular topic - it's got harder to predict results because people are less certain about who they are going to vote for! Where their polls on other topics are concerned I think they're pretty valid...

I think fake news is either a matter of private companies or interest groups deliberately designing research polls to get the results they want and/ or publishing that and other data selectively and/or out of context.

Source checking and refuting is how you combat fake public opinion!

Not true.. the blockchain action happens in the background, the average user won't even know it is happening. It's just an app like any other app, only when people "save" something it uses blockchain, in realtime. I really like this design, it looks like it will be as easy to use as any other social app or even easier, meaning a very wide audience which is important. I'm going to fund these guys, this project is worth backing!

OK great - thanks for clearing that up!

The blockchain is a great record keeping source, but how does this block chain stop manipulation? Fradulent accounts or votes still would be a possibility no?
