I like your analysis, but it occurred to me as I was following the spreadsheet that it is the income levels of the smartphone users that would be the critical factor. The per capita income may be on the low side due to widespread poverty. The 25% of the population using smartphones may be in a completely different league, in terms of income.

You are quite right. My analysis was rather generalised. I think I made my point though which was to highlight how someone like me in the UK would think nothing of a $0.10 transaction fee while someone in India may well find that a deal breaker.
