A couple of years ago, faucets represented about 80% of all wallet transactions on the bitcoin blockchain. Today the importance of faucets is not the same anymore but they are still a great way to earn your first coins in a certain currency.

What is a cryptocurrency faucet ?

A faucet is a website that gives to its visitors a small amount in a certain cryptocurrency. This amount can be paid directly to the wallet of the visitor or to a microwallet service like faucethub. It's a great way to collect some coins without having to buy them.

What is the business model behind faucets?

If a person runs a faucet it is not only for altruistic reasons. He hopes that the visitor will visit the banners and links on the faucet. He might as well put some pop-up's or url-shortener to increase his income. The model is to earn more with ad income that what is paid to the users.

How have faucets evolved over time?

The complexity of the faucets has strongly increased. The reason is that more and more bots were used to claim from the faucets. Bots don't click on banners and often don't even open the website. So the income from bots is more or less zero. Faucet owners had to increase security, using captchas, anti bots and even complex code to prevent proxys or multiple claims from same ip's. It is a permanent fight between faucet owners and bot owners and it seems that the bot owners are driving more and more faucet owners into ruin.

Is it still worth to run faucets?

I have been running faucets on my website for several years. Once it was a quite profitable small scale business but times have changed. The adnetworks tend to pay less and less and also the bots are every day more difficult to fight. There are also much more faucets around than before. There are several hundred faucets linked to faucethub alone. You can find a list with all the faucethub faucets here. There are also called prime faucets that tend to pay much higher.

How to earn money with faucets as an user?

To earn money with faucets while claiming from them is still a great way to earn your first coins in a currency. Thanks to faucethub you can now claim 14 different coins. You can even exchange the coins on the site. The interesting part when claiming from faucets is if you spread the news!

How to earn more with faucets by spreading the news

Most faucets have an integrated referral system that allows you to profit from spreading the news. Try to find the referral link copy paste it into whats'up, facebook, steemit and encourage your friends to earn coins with theses faucets. It is easy to sell, you show them a way to get free coins! If they use your referral link to register with the faucet, you will get a comission on all their activities. Imagine if you have hundreds of referrals and each time these referrals claim you get paid 1 or 2 satoshis. You might quickly earn a lot!

What are the best faucets to claim from

I've built a list with the faucets that I consider best to claim from:
The best Btc Faucets
The best Altcoin Faucets
Complete list of Faucethub Faucets

For several years I have been running websites called faucets where I give away cryptos for free to people willing to take them.

I love to share my knowledge and to help people. I dream of a world based on love, tolerance and equality, where we build our future together, helping each other.

Nice post! How much can one earn while claiming from faucets?

It really depends of how much time you can invest. If you claim from the high paying faucets, you can probably make around 500 satoshis by claiming once a day. That shouldn't take more that 5 minutes.

If I decided to start with faucets, which ones would you recommend to claim from first?

I would suggest to start with the coinpot faucets first. I wrote a steemit post about it. A good website is also cointiply for which I also wrote a post. Hope this helps ;-)

Thanks a lot!
