Although, I'm not sure, but you may be able to comment/upvote via the API without actually opening the Steemit page, so if it is keying off the interaction with the application, that could be happening too.

Yeah, definitely a possibility. I imagine it could be related to the amount of data in the post (comments, etc.), since I know that I've seen issues with the 'wallet' page when there are a lot of transactions. :)

I think there are ways to do that, honestly. I believe you can post through a third-party app too and if it is only counting views on Steemit.com (rather than something like busy, etc.) that would cause it. Not to mention, if it was just votes, you can vote via steemvoter without viewing the page. That said, it appears the article has updated, so it likely was/is a bug/scaling problem.
