AskSteemit: What is something you wish you had known earlier about cryptocurrencies?

Probably that patience and a bit of research/basic knowledge is a must. A colleague at work had invested a substantial amount and kept raving about his earning. I sort of got the bug so bought a little bit of litecoin. Within 2 days the priced dropped and I lost about a 3rd of my investment. Ha.

I got the bug though and have invested a little bit more in various altcoins however I needed to buy some bitcoin to do this then exchange. Stupidly I bought the bitcoin before I really understood how exchanges worked and which exchanges traded the altcoins I wanted, so by the time I'd figured that out the bitcoin had depreciated!

Luckily my investment is pennies compared to my colleague who's lots thousands 😕

Patience and basic knowledge!
