I've been looking at charts which is not something I do very often these days but the Ethereum chart looks very exciting. In fact, it is ahead of schedule in terms of where I predicted it would be but not far off. I still hold to my prediction that Ethereum will be over $10,000 before the end of this year, which would mean 1 trillion dollar market cap. This is if crypto keeps growing unopposed and Ethereum simply holds onto it's current momentum. If Casper is a success we may see this happen and a lot of speculation right now is in my opinion based on the fact that Ethereum is converting to Proof of Stake and the initial tests have been successful from a technical perspective.
Ethereum vs Ripple
Ethereum and Ripple had this similar battle in 2017 when they both had big run ups. Now we are seeing a similar chain of events but in this time I think Ethereum is moving up based on it's future potential while Ripple I think was more pump and dump. Again we cannot predict these things and I offer no investment advice but the Ripple technology does not seem to have been advancing and evolving at the rate of Ethereum. If we take the rate of evolution of a technology as a metric and look at how quickly it is being improved on then Ethereum looks very very good.
Prediction, Ethereum will reach $2000 within the next week
And my prediction is that Ethereum is headed to $2000 in the immediate time frame. The medium time frame is less clear as I expect there to be a period of consolidation after peaking slightly above $2000 such as $2200. This period could result in a crash in price back to $1000 or it could move sideways but eventually we will see over $5000. The time frame for that could be late spring to early summer, or it could be in mid summer, all depending on the rate of speed which the Ethereum team can solve their scaling issues and implement Proof of Stake.
- The rate of price rise in Ethereum I predict is going to be correlated with the rate of improvement on issues of scalability and proof of stake
- The overall price of Ethereum at the end of the year will in my opinion depend on the size of the total market cap for all crypto which means in a possible percentage correlation with the overall crypto market cap. If the total market cap rises into say 3 trillion then we could see Ethereum reach $900 and if it goes to 4-5 trillion then we could see $10,000+, all depending on the bullishness of the market.
- Ripple I do not have the research to say for sure but if they cannot keep up with the rate of improvement of Ethereum then their price is not justified and as a result will at some point crash. I try to find out where demand for XRP is to come from and cannot find it.
Very interesting, we have a similar view on ETH! It is very clear that when scalability is addressed (e.g. the announcement of scalability research grants) that the price shoots up.
Ethereum are trying very hard to stay on top and they are doing extremely well.

Manipulation and Bullying of XRP is partly gain of their success, cryptocurrency has entered into a very sad place, you can now use money and influence to write a narrative and sell your story... the ambush started with CMC removing SK rates and then the narrative now "ETH" inches closer to "BTC", oddly enough I remember the same pitch was done in April of 2017, BTC then went on the blast through 4000 reaching 20K at its peak and those behind it enjoyed the ride....
This space is turning into a "Herd Mentality" if you don't support their narrative, you would be bullied out of the race, one way or another, the faster some of these on-ramp service providers move away from BTC the healthier it is for the market and overall cryptocurrency community... We need radical disruption of this herd mentality or else its a potential cancer endangering all of us

Interesting view! I think that once the hype dies down (although we are far from that at the moment), the good coins will have their chance to stabilise and grow while the hype coins bleed. It will be on interesting year! I'll be covering a different coin every day on my page if you're interested in learning about different cryptos.

I see it similar; really good ideas may fall in between but they are always somehow on the rise but the bad ideas are just hyped and evacuated like betting in the casino. If you want to change that, you canonly invest in coins with a great whitepaper and spread the word on steemit and you will make profits as well!

Good post you have here.. It’s difficult to find excellent writing like yours these days. I really appreciate individuals like you! This is a topic that's near to my heart...
I think Ripple is better then Ethereum and lead the market in 2018. #BITCOIN price could soon be threatened by the growing cryptocurrency Ethereum as co-founder Steven Nerayoff predicts his creation will triple in value by the end of the year. I don't really understand why people are going crazy over ripple, at least compared with Ethereum and other options.
Perhaps people see the price and think it's a good value without looking at the market cap.
Or perhaps it's due to big money support.
Either way, it's going to be a big year for many altcoins! And before the years up, we may have to throw the 'altcoin' term out the window

@dana-edwards - I had my doubts about XRP due to their being close to the conventional banks. XRP value may be due to hype or due to manipulations by conventional banking cartel. I agree with your assessment that proof of stake implementation will make Etherium grow far faster. Thanks for this heads up. Upvoted full through Steemfollower

Anything can happen in the short term, but I have doubts about these two coins over the long term.
In the case of Ripple, it has done great in recent weeks, but I don't trust it at all. It's too centralized, too many coins were pre-mined and handed to the insiders and there are way too many coins outstanding overall. I think the valuation has gotten ahead of itself.
Ethereum is a bedrock coin, a core holding for many, and I respect the development team. However, it currently does not have the ability to handle an enterprise level application. Recently, the Cryptokitties application by itself was able to slow the network down. I know improvements are being made to increase the network's speed, but the jury is still out. If it takes a few years to do that, there is is real risk Ethereum might be left behind because of how quickly things move in this space. $EOS is a coin to keep your eye on.

Very interesting to talk about ethereum; specially when the price rise up rapidly, in my opinion ETHEREUM is getting its value according to its difficulty of mining. As I can say $1000 it's a reasonable price for miners today, however in the future difficulty will increase and the price will increase though. That's if we reach to $2000 it's not a problem to go back to 1500 but I don't see it will go back to 1000 or less .
Ripple Will play a main role in 2018 trading prices, as I could guarantee that Ripple team is doing a great job and I can see more banks around the world are joining ripple network. Consequently I believe Ripple will have a bright future.

The XRP sell of opend new door for Ethereum. While Investors were concerned about market over valuation of ripple. Ethereum became 2nd Bigest cryptocurrency in the market. Unless there is any risk aversion we can expect further advancements. Ethereum hit all time high $ 1400. Lets see what is the next level. Cheers...@kingjan

Yes it seems like it is possible. Last year, my prediction was 1ETH=$1k by the end of 1st quarter of 2018 but I was wrong and currently ETH is still pumping however it seems like there still an issue with the transactions being on pending. I know that this is normal for all but it should be fixed for them to ensure that ETH will not go back to its low value and maintain the 2nd place among the coins. I also regret my decision to trade some of my ETH to BTC hoping that BTC will go back immediately to $20k but it seems like it will take time again.

@dana-edwards I do believe ETH will reach 2K next week as well! Let's hope it happens! 2018 will be the year of ETH and Steem. ETH supports smart contracts technology so it can be used in the dark web! If a coin can be used in the dark web then its value is going UP and staying there, and that's the case with ETH.
Ripple is dangerous! Banksters will definitely increase the circulating supply once they decide that their own coin has become too expensive for transactions between banks. You can't trust the thing, however I don't want to miss out either so I keep a small amount I bought at 0,05 USD.

Most definitely ethereum is doing fantastic! I can agree on your predictions. We are going to see some serious rise on ethereum. As for ripple, I think it doesn't have such potential like ETH has. I will be buying some ethereum today, because it feels like I would miss out big time if I don't invest as soon as possible...
I already missed out when I didn't buy it when the price was really low. Not gonna make the same mistake :)

Businesses in a wide variety of industries are starting to take note of value that Ethereum's protocol has to offer. There are billions of dollars being poured into it now and there are about 10 times more projects this year than last. I believe this could easily lead to a doubling or even a tripling in price by the end of the year.

I am definitely involved with you about Ethereum. But we do not agree with Ripple. I think Ripple is a waste of time. For now my only favor is ETH! :) As a result of the ripples Bitcoin is constantly losing value. Ethereum adds power to your power. In a very short time Ethereum will be the best. @dana-edwards

It will take EOS years to catch up to the momentum. Just having better technology doesn't mean you have the developer momentum. I predict Ethereum based on developer momentum not technology. Cardano, EOS, Tezos Tauchain, all have better technology but all are not ready. Ethereum will be in position to do stuff for the next 2 years while these others have to catch up.
So I do think others might also someday reach 100 billion or even trillion dollar market cap but that is in the long term range of 3-5 years not in the next year.
