There’s a first time for everything, and so it came to pass that just the other day I gained an invaluable experience of being on live TV. The conversation was about the sudden demise of the founder of one of the largest Canadian crypto exchanges Quadriga CX Gerald Cotten, who passed away recently while travelling in India, and the consequences of his death for the crypto market.
Now that Cotten is gone, it turned out that he was the only person who had access to the information about the wallets of 115,000 of his exchange’s users. You know, decentralization, data security, whatever — this is all grand. But how do you get your money if only one person knew the passwords and encryption keys?! And what can be done in this sort of situation? Undoubtedly, this is an unprecedented situation for the crypto market, which makes it a great occasion to once again take a closer look at the industry’s weaknesses and strengths. But anyhow, see for yourself. I think it came out pretty cool!
