Blockchain Expo 2018 The Good and the Bad

On the second day of Blockchain Expo 2018 that took place in Amsterdam a few days ago, there were two talks back to back that in my opinion showcase what you should do and what you should not do when you present in an event.

On one hand, we had Galen Moore, Head of Market Intelligence of New Alchemy, which is a Blockchain consulting firm.

His presentation was excellent. He told us how great his company is.

He gave us a brief look on what to expect next.

And shared interesting information and a unique perspective on his field of knowledge. As you see for Mr Moore there are four categories of Crypto Assets: cryptocurrencies, smart contract platforms, utility and security tokens.

He told us that he didn’t like the term “utility” and “security” for tokens. He said that he would prefer the terms “network tokens” and “financial tokens”.

Network tokens, because these tokens give us access to a network of value and this value most of the times is information. As for financial tokens, he said that they are basically financial instruments that have some unique features like fractional ownership or investment. For example, with a financial token, you could have a small equity on a piece of land or in a company or in a project instead of having to buy a whole share of the company.

He closed in a clever way, using a very strong image. Blockchain is like the internet in 1994. Buggy, laggy, but with great potential.

And then we had those people from ARA Blocks. They showed us a video that I guess it was from their website and then for 20 minutes they talked generalities without saying nothing in particular.

They talked about content, ID , resources of some kind and nobody understood what the … they were doing. No product of course to show just indentions and ideas. They were so lazy that they had prepared one slide for the whole presentation. Yes, this slide you see is the only slide they had. Not the best way to sell your project.

And some participants noticed a striking resemblance of their logo with the Cardano ADA logo. You can see on the hat of the guy on the photo.

Anyway, when you present on a conference, don’t be like ARA , be like Mr Moore.
