CryptoCurrency the Rewards and Risks ( Your Mum & Dad should read this)

in crypto •  7 years ago  (edited)

Ok that's not a very fair statement, however many older people are investing in crypto and many more will wish to over the coming months and years, we are at the very beginning of a major shift in how our money is managed, distributed, secured and this will impact technology and underlying solutions in many ways over the next few years.

If interest is shown in this article I will expand my posts further to include key guides, money saving tips, where to buy and sell and security for your investments the scams, the possible scams and how people are making money through the systems and mining.

Before I continue please note the financial disclaimer at the base of this post.

A little about me.

I live in the United Kingdom, or we could say not so United Kingdom at present but that's another story about Brexit sometime in the future.

I am 52 years old and have worked in the technology and security sector most of my life, I have a varied background and knowledge on many subjects, love technology, PC games, VR and running my small business.
My key interest is Etherium but follow and have investments in other cryptocurrencies.
You can look me up on LinkedIn if interested in some of the projects and employment I have had in the past.
I am also dyslexic this brings benefits and disadvantages and state this now as some may criticize the format, grammar and spelling in my posts although I will endeavor to ensure I keep my posts coherent I do not have a proofreader.
The views are my own and tend to be alternative to the herd.

Bitcoin. https://bitcoin.org/en/

Yes I missed the boat a little in the early days and ended up with a dingy instead ( small rubber boat) not a complete loss but I admit for someone who loves technology I studied the topic and I was distracted by others who required my help, yes all those stories about people who mined Bitcoin and lost the laptop, scrapped the laptop or simply upgraded their computer, that was me, I have never stopped to add up the potential loss, I tend to give the subjects I am involved in 100% and I did not pause to think about these markets at the time and the potential future uses let alone value, sometimes you can only focus on so many projects. I suspect I have lost many millions in relation to the present value of Bitcoin but we move on and I would not be typing this post if every project result was a success, nothing would have been learned.
This is your wake up call to take some note that you should be engaging with the subject.

Bitcoin is, without doubt a great concept, it has made people wealthy and many poor ( those who panic and sell) it assists many people in currency deprived nations and was one of the core foundation stones to the present cryptocurrency phenomenon.

As I type this Bitcoin's value is approximately $7115.00, consider this only a month ago you could have picked up a bitcoin for $3616 (21st Sept 2017, as i said many are making money out of trading crypto currency and in this case Bitcoin.

So what's going on with Bitcoin at present, well here's the abridged version.
As people here about the money to be made there's a rush, FOMO (fear of missing out) this pushes prices up, they see the market drop they panic and sell, its a volatile market with huge losses and gains to be made.
Large investors are now starting to capitalise on this market.
There is also other competing currencies founded on the Bitcoin blockchain and I feel a market shift potentially orchestrated to make some, the miners ( yes cryptocurrency is mined) very wealthy, yes market manipulation.

This makes any investment in Crypto especially Bitcoin a risky business and you should do plenty of research before you invest.
To say it is far more complex is an understatement and if interest is shown I will expand on the topics.

Should you buy Bitcoin.
As with all cryptocurrencies only if you can afford to lose the money, or in my opinion trade very smartly or hold key currencies until they develop, Bitcoin has some key values but it has many issues as well and you should concider the markets, projects as being in development, much like the early days of the internet, although everything moves on much faster these days.
Bitcoin is going to be around in one format or the other for the foreseeable future, well at least until Etherium or Dash catch on.

Etherium. https://www.ethereum.org/

I had already declared my interest in this project.
Yes a project, although Etherium is traded and has a value it can be seen more as Gas (petrol) in a car (automobile) and powers the network.

Etherium has some really groundbreaking underlying technologies, it has a great development team and in my opinion, is going to change many aspects of our lives, those we see and those we do not, like smart contracts.

You can buy Etherium as with many other currencies, never unless you are trading buying or selling leave your blockchain derived currencies or tokens on the trading platform, more on this if interest is shown.
Consider a hardware wallet, don't leave it attached to your computer.

Etherium is up a little today and trades at $336.50.
Estimates of $750 - 800 in 2018 and even as high as $3000 have been pushed around, one thing is for sure it's not going away anytime soon.

Many don't wish to pause to look at some of the Alt ( alternative) currencies such as Etherium, I feel this is a better buy than Bitcoin, do the maths and hold for a few years.

Are there derivatives of Etherium , yes.
Be careful with respect to ICO.s, these need further regulation, the amounts raised are ludicrous and although the underlying use of the system is a great idea, most will fail!

So if you're considering investing, my tip is Etherium.
I look forward to expanding on this if interest is shown withion this post as a condensed view of these markets, blockchain solutions and currencies.
