With a hundred Arnhem retailers, ranging from restaurant to clothing store, can be paid with the bitcoin. But for a year, the number of bit-coin transactions has fluctuated around one hundred per month, with an average turnover of approximately 2,000 euros a month.

This is shown by figures from BitKassa, an organization that maintains the use of bitcoins. A walk through various entrepreneurs supports those results.

Spar
For example, the Spar at Arnhem Centraal was the first supermarket in the Netherlands where bit coin payments were accepted. After a year and a half, the counter stops at over 300 digital transactions. Given the number of customers coming in daily, that is little, says business manager Nicky van Zoggel.

'Not easy'
"We try to roll the ball, but that's not easy," says Patrick van der Meijde, one of the initiators of Arnhem Bitcoinstad. "The bitcoin is not used as much as we had hoped and expected."

Van der Meijde hopes that the bitcoin will be popular in Arnhem in the future.
