The world of Cryptocurrency is still evolving

I recently got back to looking at the cryptocurrencies that I bought previously and noticed that there have been some hard forks happening (eg. Bitcoin Cash is not Bitcoin Cash ABC and Bitcoin Cash SV, etc.). As most of the cryptocurrencies that I own are utility tokens and are based on the Ethereum ERC-20 standard previously, I had to do some work to update my cryptocurrencies as some have spun off their own chains. This is where things got interesting!

For Ethereum, I previously used MyEtherWallet to store all the ERC-20 cryptocurrencies and only had a private key to log in with. Now, it is the "not recommended" method to log into the wallet. I either have to use MetaMask or some other way to gain access and, as always, there are challenges. I first started out with the Opera browser (as that is the browser that I use most often) and it keeps giving me errors even though I have MetaMask installed and my old MyEtherWallet account added. Then I moved on to the Brave browser and Chrome browser and MetaMask worked nicely and I managed to log into MyEtherWallet and moved my cryptocurrencies.

This reminds me that the world of cryptocurrencies is constantly evolving and it remains a new frontier in how technology is being used. As security improvements are made, I believe the hassle of having to perform all the additional steps to get into our accounts will ease and more people will find the technology accessible.

Till then, it's good to know that this technology continues to improve and tells me that it is a field worth investing in.
